Should've stayed on the boat... (Open)

Post by Aerus »

(Looks like Yamaha has been the most ignored place as of late so it seemed like a good place to open a thread :) )

A Gawainian merchant ship glided smoothly toward the docks of the port city of Hoshiruki. Kyros stood toward the bow of the ship to help guide the vessel through the light fog that had settled into the harbor. He had the best eyesight of the crew so the eagle often found himself on such duty. Besides that he did happen to be the ship's navigator.

It had been a while since they had brought goods to Yamaha and Kyros had always been enthralled by the exotic culture of the place. Since he couldn't lift heavy objects he didn't have to deal with the cargo and once the ship was secure he just about rocketed on shore. His fellow shipmates always warned him to stay on the ship when in Yamaha since felines had a dislike of avians. He ignored the advise though, it was such a neat place to him.

Most of the ports they visited knew about Kyros as it wasn't exactly normal to seen a sea-faring beaked avian. As a result he was generally stared at but not bothered. Not so today though. Barely fifteen minutes on shore and the eagle found himself surrounded by a group of felines who seemed intent on removing the avian from the city. Kyros stood defensively and tried to look tough but as he didn't know much at all about fighting he pretty much failed miserably. If somebody didn't do something he was about to be in a world of hurt...

The Okiya geisha house was fairly close to the harbor of Hoshiruki port, overlooking the ships as they came to anchor and come ashore. The common misconception from foreigners was that geishas were in fact prostitutes, a popular notion among lonely sailors and traders who have been out on the sea for a tad too long.

Islie, a geisha on her way to a client, was traversing the streets towards her next scheduled appointment at a tea house when she noticed a peculiar sight by the harbor. The local seafaring felines were encompassing an avian male who had just docked at the port, seemingly defiant despite the felines' overwhelming numbers as they attempted to push him back towards the ship he disembarked from.

She could tell that the avian didn't know what he was doing, and even if he did know how to defend himself, it was most likely the the feline merchants would surely pluck the feathers off his body and tie him to the mast of one of their ships. Islie didn't know why, but she felt the urge and compassion to rescue the avian as she squeezed her way past the feline mob.

"Islie-chan? What are you doing here, can't you see we are about to torture this foolish avian for stepping on our land?" one of the feline traders inquired of Islie as she came into close range of the avian.

Islie was very popular and well-known in the port city of Hoshiruki, mostly for her beauty and being the only known canine geisha. To the foreign felines of Yamaha, Islie was the most exotic looking fur to offer her services as a geisha dancer and entertainer.

"It is okay, this avian comes here under neutral premises, I assure all of you. He is one of my prestigous overseas client that came here to pay for my service as a geisha."

The normally skeptical felines believed Islie as they began to regress back to their ships and harbor. After all, who could possibly deny anything from such a beautiful creature?

Smiling, Islie turned around to face the unkempt avian as she examined his ruffled gray and white feathers.

"You know... you really should've stayed on the boat."

"Maybe one of these days I'll listen to such advice," Kyros said with a slow shake of his head as his assailants backed away. He shuffled his wings in agitation. "If only did not have to worry about such treatment," he muttered with a sigh.

The eagle inclined his head and turned to face Islie. "I certainly owe you my thanks," he said with a courteous dip of his head, "I doubt I would have fared so well in the hands of them." Even to his avian eyes Kyros found the geisha at sight to behold and at his age it took a noticeable effort to keep his voice level.

"Might I know the name of my rescuer?" the avian finally said after an uncomfortable pause.

"My name is Islie Miyazaki, I work as a geisha over by the Okiya House just a few streets down," she introduced herself as she gave a slight bow of curtsy towards the avian. "Surely, this must be your first time here in Hoshiruki if you thought it safe for an avian such as yourself to step on Yamaharian land."

It was strange for Islie to see an beaked avian as a sailor, or to even see an avian at all for that matter. She was intrigued by him, perhaps because he was notably different than the felines she typically worked and interacted with, just as how she always felt a strange sense of displacement for being a canine.

"...and might I ask the name of this feathered rescuee?"

"I'm glad you happened to be nearby, Islie," Kyros said in a grateful tone. He looked around briefly as if the group would come back for him. "I'm not ashamed to admit I'm not much of a fighter but guess I'm a little too confident for my own good." The eagle scratched nervously at the ground with a taloned foot and brought his attention back toward the canine geisha. "I've actually been here several times before...though I didn't usually spend too much time on the ground. I suppose it was a little foolish to think I wouldn't get in trouble trying to walk straight into town."

Kyros gave a shrug and then gave a bow with a flourish of a wing when prompted for his name. "I'm Kyros Theron, navigator for the cargo ship Swift Dolphin docked over there." He indicated the ship with a point of his beak. "I certainly don't want to keep you from your work much longer but I have to ask: why would you even bother trying to pull me out of that mess?"

At first, the trip on the boat didn't seem like such a bad idea. It was a spontaneous decision to leave, as well as drastic considering how much money Paska had spent. He was still short a few coins, but luckily the captain was a reasonable man. To a certain extent. For the entire voyage, Paska aided the ship as much as he could with his past knowledge of sailing. This, however, was a merchant ship, not some rocking fishing boat. The crew soon found that there was little use for the Otter-boy so Paska was set on helping unloading the barge once it reached land.

So now here he was, hot, sweaty, and exhausted. He began to heave another stack of merchandise toward the pier when he saw something that changed his features. There was going to be a fight. Paska set the box down, reconsidering about simply dropping it carelessly on the ground and stood on top so he could get a better look. He paused and frowned, "Scratch that, this is going to be a massacre," He muttered.

In the center of a growing and quite threatening looking circle of felines was the very Avian off the ship! He was the first Avian Paska had seen up close and at first he stared at the eagle, but soon got used to his presence. His role was rather forgotten, as well as his name, but either way he was in a fix.

He began to race down the pier, planning to dropkick the first feline with extreme anticipation for a brawl. And then a girl appeared. Paska skidded to a stop, taken off guard at her appearance.
"Islie-chan? What are you doing here, can't you see we are about to torture this foolish avian for stepping on our land?"
The sailors were taken aback as well, but still held their very dangerous poses. Feeling it better not to interfere, Paska observed.
"It is okay, this avian comes here under neutral premises, I assure all of you. He is one of my prestigious overseas client that came here to pay for my service as a geisha."
"What a load of crap," Paska thought. But then he thought if the goons would actually buy it. He watched, slightly bored and disappointed, as the group dispersed back to their own duties. Paska on the other hand was still curious. Then he remembered the missing weight on his shoulders. He jogged back to the harbor edge and retrieved his straps holding his two valuables; a quiver and a wooden bow. After he retrieved them he made a similar jog back, eager to make sure the two were still all right. As he approached, Paska called out to the Avian, young anticipation gleamed in his eyes., "Hey Mister...uh, oh hell!" The fellow's name had been long forgotten, "Damn! Sorry I forgot your name. You remember seeing me around though, right? The guy that jumped off board for a fish? Yeah well, are those guys gonna give you any more trouble? Cause if they do, well I'll hold the rear, eh?" He chuckled slightly, still disappointed about missing what might have been a good street brawl.

(Sorry for the late reply! I've been occupied with a few other games ^_^)

"I certainly don't want to keep you from your work much longer but I have to ask: why would you even bother trying to pull me out of that mess?"
It was at that very moment that Islie realized she had missed her appointment with her client at the tea house in the process of rescuing the avian. Surely, the geisha house owner would punish her for not performing her duties promptly on time, and she did not look forward to having to explain the unnecessary ordeal she got herself involved in.

"Umm... I'm not quite sure why I helped you, but perhaps you could return the favor? You wouldn't happen to have any space aboard the Swift Dolphin for a passenger would you?" Islie was feeling spontaneous, and at that moment she decided to make the break for it and finally run away from the Yamaha Dynasty.

She noticed an otter approach Kyros, tall and lanky.

(My turn to apologize. Real life kind of kidnapped me for a while. Would you two still be interesting in continuing this?)

Mind If I join in?
Taken in by a local temple Isamu Katsuo The brave Victory. Was walking through town. Lost in thought. Trying to figure out A Koan that had frustrated him for many days now. He seemed no closer to it now then he had at the beggining. And due to his complete concentration on the Message and it's hidden meaning He did not notice the otter. Though he did when he bumped right into him.
