The wolf gasped, the fireball coming straight towards him.

"Damn hells!" He cursed, tail growing hot with the approaching heat.

The wolf possessed some talent in magic, but those skills were nothing too impressive, and all that he could do magically was influence the thoughts of others - Not grand displays of power such as this! He attempted to roll out of the way, and barely just made it safely to the edge of the hall, the magical entity roaring past him.

His cloak was singed with black ash, the furs on the end of his tail crispy and burnt. He took in a deep breath, regaining his composure, and then scrambled to his hinds, taking off down the hall once more. He was bursting with adrenalin, hoping to avoid another energy attack from the panther.

At one point or another, the completion of his mission had become less important than simply surviving it

Whence the bird saw the black wolf dodge yet another chance at death, he swept forward on his wings, resuming his duty of hired guardsman. He flew in to the wolf, knocking him off his feet with the staff end of his scythe, and then curved around, coming back in for the kill. The blade of his weapon glinted dangerously.

Seemingly out of nowhere, a red furred fox leapt from the rafters, booted feet landing with a noisy thud onto the hall's floor. He darted towards the bird, drawing two daggers from his belt, and slashed out at his wings. The Avian, taken off guard, halted on his attack of Malcolm, and turned to battle the fox instead.

"Todd... you last minute fool!" The black wolf spoke, panting. "'Tis time you showed up!"

The bird blocked the fox's daggers with the bar of his scythe, and then sliced out with his weapon, aiming for the fox's torso.

"Looks like I have me two spies now!" The bird grinned, excitement growing.

The fox glanced at the animals farther down the hall, a panther and another red fox, and then he returned his attention to the peril at hand. Just as his eyes met the bird, the scythe came out to slash at him, and he skillfully flipped backwards, body curving around the weapon like a dance. His booted feet landed against the floor in a crouch, and then he sprung out with his daggers to catch the bird in a quick, concentrated attack, his lithe body zooming past his feathered enemy.

Jherik's eyes widened, he had found who he was looking for. He ran up, holding the lantern in a ready position to hurl it. "Aha! I hath found you! Now it is time to end this doppleganger charade of yours!" he yelled, though he then turned towards the wolf, seeing as he was a more immediate threat.

"You silly fox." Malcolm spoke to the rapier wielding canine. "You hope to best me with only a simple lantern?" He chuckled, amused.

Jherik snarled, throwing the lantern in a controlled arc, which surprised him as his aim was usually terrible. "I merely wish to unearth the mysteries of all this!" he yelled, moving forward more slowly, holding his rapier in a ready stance, adrenaline pumping through him.

The wolf grinned, the humor in his eyes restrained, and dodged the flying lantern fairly easy. It was not that the fox's aim had not been worth something, but that he was too predictable in his tactics. If the red furred canine wished to harm him, then he would have to pull an attack that the wolf could not foresee.

"You wish to know the meaning behind our existence here, is that all?" The black wolf questioned the red canine. "If so, then you will hath to earn it."

Malcolm drew his long knife, the blade sparkling with gems and gold. He readied the weapon in his paw, and then came at the fox with a quick slash.

*OOC: Since Todd is controlling two characters, I thought that I would quote the post that interacts with mine.*

The bird gasped, flesh, blood, and cloth tearing away from the dagger's steel. He knelt over, the grip on his sycthe loosening, yet he still managed to hold on. The Avian panted, and then, determindely, grit his teeth, pushing the pain to the back of his mind.

An Avian's weakness was in his skin and wings. If a bird was successfully hit, then his flesh, having no fur or scales to protect it, would give and bleed. If his wings were injured even somewhat, then the bird could lose his ability to fly and, even on his feet, such weight from his wings would make his wounds too painful to manage movement or fight.

So a bird had extreme agility in the air and strength in his bones to make getting hit very difficult. The cardinal, Raja, had slipped in his defense, and the next slip could prove devasting to his situation. The wound that the fox had made was a deep gash in his abdomen, and it bled dangerously.

To still the bleeding, the bird quickly tore off a piece of his cloak and then wrapped it tightly around the wound. Raja would be fine as long as the bleeding stopped soon, but in the meantime he had to fight. So he spread his great red wings, grin replaced with a serious line, and came after the fox in a controlled ferocity of flight and weapon.

Upon throwing the fireball, Ashoka had stopped running completely. The fox rushed past her and engaged the wolf. When she saw the fox leap down at Raja, she realised that she would have her work cut out for her.
She started running towards the two fights and weighed up her options, her military training kicking in. The avian was much more proficcient in combat than the fox but he had been injured, thus making him vulnerable. However, she reasoned, he would fight with much more tenacity than the fox as he was avian, a natural warrior. She made a snap decision and ran to help the fox.

She realised that she was still sheathed in immolating flames and would harm the fox if she moved in too close. She was not very adept in protective magic, focusing her studies on refining her offensive powers. However, when dealing with such a destructive force as fire, it helped to know a few dweomers that could shield from it. She quickly prepared the spell on the run, a glowing blue orb appearing in her paws. She rushed in and pressed the orb onto the Jherik, singeing his tunic with her flames before he was bathed in a bright blue aura, flowing about him like fire. It was at this moment that the Wolf made his slash.

She continued past the fox, unable to slow her momentum in time. The slash impacted on her shoulder, the enchantments of her robes turning away the cutting edge, but not absorbing the force of the blow. she gasped as she reeled from the hit and lost her footing. She careered in mid air straight into the wolf, barreling her shoulder into his chest. as she knocked him down, she continued over his head, flames whipping around Malcolm as she flew over. She hit the ground hard on her injured shoulder, sliding some way across the smooth floor. She scrambled back to her feet, clutching her badly bruised shoulder and shouted back at the wolf, "Have we earned it yet?"
The only verdict is vengeance, a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain.

Jherik cried out as he jumped to the side, the blade slicing his arm painfully. He stifled the pain, and kept his rapier in a ready stance, so as to bluff his opponent. "I feel that knowledge can easily be acquired with the proper amount of tenacity." he said, wincing slightly. He circled the wolf, ready to block, his minute combat training being used for once.

The wolf was confused. The panther had rushed in and knocked him off of his feet in an attempt to protect the fox, though, the fox had still been struck by his blade. Regardless, he was now flat on the ground, the flames of the panther having further singed his cloak and the longer fur atop his head. He grit his teeth, a surge of energy shooting through him, and leapt to his feet. He had managed to hold fast to his knife despite the ruckus, and now calculated his options, albeit swiftly - There was no time to waste here.

The panther was obviously a powerful sage, but this fox was nothing short of a joke, though, even jokes could prove troublesome if you underestimated them too much. He decided to keep the fox in the corner of his eye, while he dealt mainly with the panther. Todd would handle the Avian - The fox had much experience with their sort.

Malcolm darted towards the panther, drawing a shorter knife from his belt as he ran, but then skidded to a halt before coming too close, in which he flung the shorter knife skillfully in her direction. It twirled towards her, the gems on its hilt flashing in the torch light of the hall.

******

The fox had not yet fought, so he was as fresh as newly fallen rain. But still the Avian had become desperate to kill him, so Todd would definitely have to give all that he was worth if he were to keep his breath. The red furred canine prepared himself for the Avian as the bird soared towards him at an impressive speed, and back flipped when Raja came too close. The scythe struck out at him, and once again he dodged the blade with refined skill. He landed on his feet, but the bird was still coming on hard. Todd gripped his daggers, ready for the worst.

OOC: Oops, when I made my previous post, the computer hadn't shown me the post right before it...

Jherik looked back at his shoulder, noticing that the shield had protected him from any real damage. He knew that he was useless in direct combat, so he ran off among the many obstacles in the room to formulate a plan of some sort. He knew there was little he could do, but he would try to help out the others somehow. "I am really going to need to practice more..." he nagged to himself once again.

Raja's mind was now solely concentrated on killing Todd, the time for playing over, and he struck out with the bar of his scythe, the attack hard and quick.
