The Missing Shipment (closed)

Post by Catalina Tamiko » Tue Nov 06, 2012 11:41 pm

Catalina was pulling her own cart along. A cart laden with her best work. She had received this order from the Monarch of Yamaha. Her best work was required, and if it was good, the promise of more work was sure to follow. At least she hoped. Things had been slow lately, leaving her and her mate short of gold to pay for the food they needed to feed their daughter. When this order came from Yamaha, Catalina had been so happy she worked without sleep. The Weapons were crafted from her best steel. The armor was hammered to match the style of Yamaha. She, being Edwinish, hadn't truly studied Yamanese metalwork. It had taken her sometime, but she learned swiftly.

Now, after taking a ship as close as she could get, she trudged along, wearing the best clothing she had. Her features were mortal now, as she hadn't been to Yamaha in some 200 years, and succubi were not well liked. The amulet around her neck, hidden in her clothing, was the only valuable thing she wore. Her tail held high, the tigress came to a stream. Pausing to kneel and get a drink of the cool water, she looked around. She felt something was off. In her bones she could feel it, she was being watched. She clenched a paw, her eyes glowing faintly as she tried to determine the source of the threat.

A small rustle came from the bushes, and a twang. An arrow shot out of the bushes suddenly, missing her by a hair, and suddenly Mustellids burst from all around. There was at least 20 coming from the hill, and if Catalina looked back, she would notice 10 in the stream directly in front of her, previously hidden by a clever magic to sneak up on them. There was an overwhelming number for a simple merchant, but this was a different cause for this. They had had a small inkling of her power, and needed to overpower her swiftly before she could react.

Catalina ducked at the arrow whizzed past her. Growling deeply, she stood, her eyes glowing brightly, "you should have killed me with that shot." She Brought a paw up, a crystaline substance covered her paw, hardening and a long, curved blade shot from it, reaching nearly four feet in length. "Now now boys and girls. Plenty of me to go around." She was nervous. Numbers this large, and her eyes deceived by magic. Magic meant either a demon or a mage. The latter more likely. As she turned slowly, looking between their forces, she paused to ponder her plan of action. It would be bad business if she slaughtered them. But she may appear weak if she spared all of them.

She was conflicted. Bloodshed was something she actively tried to avoid. But there were times, like now, when she was forced to reveal what she was, and to what extent her powers could cause damage. She was the strongest of the Tamiko clan, heir apparent to the lands of the Tamiko Reign in the realm of Inferno. A dutchess in training, so to speak. She turned from the ones in the stream, they would take a moment to reach her. She had to deal with the ranged warriors with the bows first.

From her back burst a pair of long, elegant black feathered wings. "I can reach where your arrows can not fly. I suggest you leave while I'm in a good enough mood Mazkin...." She said, uttering a slur in her native tongue. She was nervous, this shipment was royal property. If it were lost, Shiba only knows what fate would befall her for this. Her clothing ruined now, she pondered assuming her full armor. But the display of such power, and to mortals no less, was expressly frowned upon by the Council of Inferno. She had no love of angering them. It would mean her banishment from Inferno forever.

As she pondered, her guard dropped some, as her ears canted toward the foes before her. Leaving the ones behind unattended too.

The ones in the stream took the opening for what it was. They had been surprised by the wings, but had been told what to expect. It seemed they had a lot of information on this ambush... They leaped suddenly, as a group, blades and clubs raised, swinging downward.

The ones in the brush leaped up, bows at the ready. They readied and fired at will, arrows flying every which way. The maelstrom of arrows and blades was rather confusing, an opening which was found by a mental pressure.

A presence pressed at Catalina's mind, trying to force its way in, trying to take advantage of her distraction.

The tigress spun toward the stream, then back to the bushes. Her own blade swinging up around over back any way it could move. She was hard pressed and finally grabbed one of them. Holding him against her chest, which was easily seven foot high as her entire succubus form stood out. She used him as a living shield, her blade under his throat, "Back savages!!!!"

The pressure...something trying to force it's way into her mind. At first it met terror. Fear on the surface. The next layer was a mental defense. Emotionlessness. The third layer was her succubus rage. A level of Anger No mortal could ever comprehend. Below that was her mind. But it was buried far below that anger. And the anger was getting deeper.

Catalina grit her teeth, then flung the poor soul she had held against her into the ones in the bushes. Whirling on the ones in the stream, she drew back her free paw and a pulsing ball of black energy formed in it. "Come on. I don't have all day. Bunch of pups. Either come at me....or go home to your mothers." The tigress started toward the stream, leaving her exposed back to the bushes. IN her anger, her last mental defense fell apart, and the gates of her mind were open. Memories, thoughts, knowledge of the ages past, powerful magics, even the rare blood magic. All now laid out before the intruder.

The mind took the opening swiftly, forcing its way in and scoping quickly. It went right past the maelstrom to the parts that controlled her body, and seized them violently. It forced her body into freezing, though she could still speak and think. It just was holding her still.

The ones in the stream saw her freeze, and swarmed her instantly. Clubs came from all sides, beating her harshly, while daggers cut at her arms, drawing blood but not incapacitating. The arrows stopped, allies trying not to hit them, and the mental force kept its pressure up.

Catalina, unable to control her own body, panicked. As the beating took it's toll, she did the only thing she could do. She passed out. Limply, she lay on the ground, blood coming from the numerous cuts in her body, dripping from her nose and lips. Her eyes lost their glow, and closed softly. She was breathing raggedly. The crystaline gauntlet on her paw from which her blade had extended seemed to evaporate away. The only thing left was her pendant. The gemstone in it glowed softy, pulsing with a radiant energy unlike anything ever crafted in this realm. To another being, the pendant was as heavy as a boulder around their neck, and would drain the life from their body if they tried to steal it. To the succubus, it was a magical source or energy. A Soul Gem, filled with the souls of her slain foes.

With the tigress unconscious, her cart, and the goods inside were now at the hands of the bandits. Weapons and armor, crafted from the strongest of Edwinish steel and decorated with the gems and gold of the best Gawainish mines. And every piece of it bore the seal of the Yamanese Monarch. His mark on his property. With military grade weapons and armor, the price of the goods was very high indeed.

The bandits swiftly took advantage of the situation, checking her for valuables. When done, they ransacked the cart, taking as much as possible, leaving her only with enough to survive. They also left a note addressed to the Emperor, rolled up and sealed with a unique mark. They then vanished, seemingly, leaving only her and her cart, along with the note. The silence was eerie, and nothing stirred.

Catalina sat up, reaching to her head. It hurt, pounding heavily. The sun was almost set. She didnt even need to check her cart, to know it was well emptied. Her clothing tattered, her pendant missing. She growled deeply, as her full cubi features displayed themselves. Standing now nearly nine feet tall, her eyes glowing like small stars, her muscles rippled and bulged. Without that pendant, she wouldn't be able to stave off the cravings to feed on souls. And she would need some soon. Kicking the cart over, she roared. Sending forest creatures scattering for cover. It was then she saw the note. Picking it up, she glanced it over, but couldnt read it. She could speak Yamanese, but not read the language. Tucking the note in the tatters of her clothing, she looked around. The cart was empty. Her coin purse the only thing of value left. She knew they it would take them forever to figure out her amulet was useless to them. Too heavy to wear and would kill them. She spread her wings and took to the air.

She had 48 hours before she would need some kind of souls to feed on. Flying, she headed right for the palace. The streaking aura trail around her making her look like a black flamed comet. Hitting the ground in the courtyard of the palace she snarled at the guards that waved weapons at her. "STAY YOUR PAWS LEST I MAKE A MEAL OF YOU!!! TELL THE EMPEROR......THAT THE BLACKSMITH IS HERE TO SEE HIM....NOW!!!!!!!"

The guards, startled, reacted predictably and one of them went running to find the Emperor while the rest kept their weapons pointed at her. Some of them made signs that were predictable to Yamaha, like licking paws to wet the eyebrows, and not looking into her eyes.

Moshimo Takashari was eating his midday meal when a guard came bursting in. "Your Grace, there is a... a demon here claiming to be a blacksmith and wants to see you now!" He was all red and puffing, obviously from running.

Takashari calmly put down his utensils, setting his food to the side. "I see," he said, be fore calmly standing. "Makatar, right? You shall bring me to this 'blacksmith' at once." Takashari made a point to know all his guardsmen's names. Created a bond with them. He picked up his katana that he always kept nearby him, holding the sheathe in one hand, before calmly following Makatar back to the courtyard.

Catalina had been kept waiting for less than an hour when there finally came movement from the direction the guard dashed off. The guard had come back leading a slim leopard in simple robes and holding a katana. The leopard moved like one trained with a blade, and quickly took stock of the situation with a single glance.

Upon seeing the Emperor, Catalina lowered her posture. She knew royalty when she saw it. Taking a moment to gather her wits, thought not her tone, she gave a bow and spoke in the dialect the royalty would be accustomed too. "Your Grace, I being you grievous news.I am Catalina Tamiko, The succubus blacksmith of York within the land of Edwin. The shipment you ordered from me, has be stolen. MY hard work taken by thieves and bandits. They also took something of great value and protection to me. My amulet. I will not explain the amulet here, though I have something that they left. A note, though I can not read it." She took out the note, stepping up to him and bowing to present it.

The amulet, as the bandits would soon find out, had a mind and life all it's own. During transporting it, it would suddenly weigh as if it were a mountain, pulling anyone or anything that carried it right to the ground. Then it would change, and be light as a feather, but hot as a forge burning paws and clothing. However, it would never let anyone just throw it away. Any attempt to do so, resulted in the amulet flying back and latching itself onto the one that threw it. Had Catalina not been so desperate to get it back, she might have found amusement in the plight of the one that took it off her. Unfortunately she was not there to see it, and her time was starting to wear thin as her patience.

(i'm moving away from the bandits for now, as they dont have direct impact on the storyline, just an friendly note)

Takashari listened to her tale before taking the letter. The guards gave a twitch, but he shot them a look and they stood down. He read the front, then carefully opened it with smooth motions. He took out the note, then read it out loud.

"Dearest Blade,

We regret to inform you that we know about your plans. You really think you could declare war against us and have us not take note? Foolish child, we knew this was coming, and as such, you are out a shipment of weapons and armor. Such a pity that certain people can't keep secrets, and our spies have such wide ears. As for the blacksmith, she was of little note, other than to irk you by fully robbing her instead of just taking your supplies. Now you have to outfit her with your own supplies, lest you cruelly send her to die. But if you wish to, say, rescind your declaration and form a partnership with us, we may just consider it. The alternative is too much to fathom for you.

Signed with love,
Your Dearest Family"

Takashari lowered the letter, face a calm slab. He looked to his guards, and said, "Leave us, please, and fortify all openings. The Ikeda have shown their scaly hides." He then went over to Catalina and took a knee. "Forgive me for not thinking they would strike so soon. I declared us at war with them a week ago, and foolishly assumed they would still be organizing. However they were brash enough to strike at you while you had a load of our cargo. So now we need to go retrieve said cargo, before they can either destroy it or distribute it."

((thank you kindly :) )

Catalina nodded as she stood, looking around, she took note of defenses, and then spoke plainly. "You need more than this. They have at least one mage. Possibly more than that. Powerful mage too. Inaded my mental defenses while I was distracted. Howeer the cargo is not what you should worry about." She turned her glowing gaze on him. "They took my amulet. If I had a spare, I would not be more than just angry. But that was the only one I had. It's how I can live among mortals and not be feared. It's a Soul Gem Amulet. It contains the souls of those I defeated in combat. Without it, I must hunt for souls. Which means I would be a very hungry succubus. We need to retrieve it before the sun sets in two days. I can hold out that long, but after that I must feed. Live stock will tide me over, however it will not last me long."

She cracked her neck, looking back at the defenses of the Palace. "You'll need far more men than this. I hope you have an army at your disposal. You'll need thousands against the magics they have." She looked at her paw, making a fist, further bugling the muscles in her arm out of anger. "If you have time, we need to plan this. They are skilled, leaving little to no trace. We'll need to track them. I can take someone to where they caught me." Her mind was already planning, running over ideas and thoughts. She was running out of time. She could use animals to sate that hunger. but only a soul from a mortal would satisfy it completely.

Takashari shook his head. "You don't realize, whatever they do with those weapons, we can't let them get away free. I am organizing a strike force to hit them when they are not expecting it, like we did. I know these people. We have 5 days before they reharden their defenses. In the meantime, we are going in and out of their storage like ghosts." He said a small snatch of Yamahese to the guards, "Organize the Regal Blades. They move out with me on the morrow." he then turned back to the blacksmith. "Meanwhile, would you like to have our mages see if they can cast a disguise on you so you can blend in? It may help you while we wait for the strike force."

Catalina waved a paw over herself. her physical appearance changed, resembling a more normal tigress, though still over six foot tall. But the fires of anger still burned in her eyes. Even without the glow, it was plain to see. "I can mask my appearance, but thank you your majesty. Though....I'm in need of a bed and a meal. If you have a small room to spare, I would be grateful." She looked around, watching guards do as ordered. To her, it was not so strange. She had walked this land once before, long before this monarch drew breath. But the people of that time, had reacted poorly. She had been run off at the end of a blade by superstitious furs.

The once beautiful dress she wore, now tatters, showed sighs of previous wear. The fringes were burnt, from working the forges, frayed hems from long hours doing chores. This was the dress of a working woman. And while her manners appeared to lack something, she carried herself with a certain grace and presence only a Noble of some kind would.
