Stromnor nodded and grinned, unable to stop himself from cracking a wide grin of happiness that revealed some of his sharp teeth. He caught Freya's eye and sheepishly shut his mouth, trying not to look too needy. His mind still reeled with joy. I'm going to get a job and a sea one at that! Stromnor twisted his arm around to look at his cutlass tattoo when the dragoness mentioned it. It was a small one, and therefore would be pretty easy to blot out by a bigger tattoo.

The rat nodded confirmation when Freya noted that he should be sure about this job. He speedily ran through good sailor qualities he had and recited them aloud to her. Under the command of a pirate captain, he had learned many essential nautical terms as well as the importance of obedience. Under the reign of Captain Scrawldon, a disobedient crew member would be flogged almost instantly and without question, or, in Scrawldon's worst moods, run through by the sea rat's cutlass. Stromnor swallowed nervously as he said this, ignoring the pale look on the tavern-keeper's face.

"Well, Freya, it is nice seeing you again," he continued, keeping level eye contact as best as he could. His heart pounded as he gazed into the dragoness's eyes, and he sat there almost staring. Only when he felt a crooked smile curving the corners of his mouth did he quickly regain composure. He abruptly cleared his throat loudly and blinked several times rapidly. His tail swished with concern as he again glanced at her. He felt his fur tinge a very slight red. The rat was unsure; did she merely think he was losing composure or did she think the truth?

Freya offered a genuine smile of her own in response to Stromnor's grin. She nodded as he ran down the list of qualities he felt would make him a good fit for the Edwinish navy. She looked a bit taken aback when he mentioned how his previous captain had dealt with disobedience. "That seems a bit disproportionately harsh." She replied quietly. "I can promise you that death is a punishment for only the most egregious offenses in the navy....treason, mutiny...that sort of thing." She replied. "Though disobedience is still dealt with, depending on the severity of the infraction." She shrugged as if admitting her knowledge only went so far. "I operate a bit outside the command structures most of the time." she admitted.

She smiled again. "It's nice seeing you again too." She replied. She paused for a moment to finish off her drink, watching him over the top of the mug. She tilted her head a bit, looking curious for a moment when he cleared his throat. "Did you have any plans for today." She asked as if there was nothing out of the ordinary.

Stromnor's entire body relaxed a bit as she explained that the Navy's conditions wouldn't nearly be as harsh as Scrawldon's. He ordered a mug of milk with a couple shillings, sipping it as he nodded with confirmation. "Well, Scrawldon has always been a mad type. Most of the crew hated him, save for my father, who is the reason for Scrawldon's captaincy. Of course, most of the time he was taking care of me, so I'm not entirely sure whether or not he noticed." The rat took another sip, stared into his cup with a wry expression, and placed it back on the counter. He craned his neck and glared at the tavern-keeper. The wildcat peered inside, licked it, and almost vomited. He immediately went to get a fresher milk.

Stromnor was completely taken aback, and at the same time relieved, when she appeared to not notice his mess up. She would need to know at some point, but they had known each other for only a little while, so he was going to give it a bit of time for him to get to know her better. She asked again if he had any plans today, and he paused. What am I going to do? It's gonna take a while to head all the way to the south Edwinish coast on foot.

"I probably could use some time to fix up my life with the help of that money you gave me." He grinned and gestured to himself. "Were it not for you, I'd still be a starving beggar in the streets. I could get used to more than a meal a day." Stromnor meant every word. He hated being hungry with a passion, and craved food of all sorts with an appetite. He was actually a pretty plump rodent back on Ratveil, but ever since his fallout with his captain without a farthing to spare, he had gotten used to going to sleep with a grumbling stomach. The rat looked down at himself. He was still rather skinny, but hopefully on a better diet he could achieve a healthier state.

Freya raised an eyebrow as Stromnor described the feelings Scrawldon's crew had for him. "I have to say that I'm a little surprised that there wasn't a mutiny, or at least an attempt." She commented before taking another sip from her drink. She fought a chuckle as she watch the interaction between Stromnor and the innkeeper over Stromnor's drink.

She leaned back a bit and nodded as she listened to him explain his plans. "Couldn't hurt I suppose." She replied. She gave a slight smile he mentioned the coin she'd given him. "I'm happy to have helped." She replied with complete sincerity. "And I hope you won't have to go hungry again." She continued before leaning forward again and setting her mug back on the table.

Stromnor shrugged with an expression of confusion on his face. "I assume they were all scared of him or admired him. He is a very strong and skillful rodent, and I think I would've actually liked him were it not for the fact that he was a downright jerk." He grinned hugely as the tavern-keeper, with a slightly green muzzle, brought him a fresh mug of milk. The wildcat smiled weakly. "I tossed out the bad milk. Smelled it, never want to again." He made a severely disgusted face. Stromnor couldn't resist a derisive snort. The wildcat looked a bit disgruntled, but he took it well and went into the back of the tavern to do some made-up task.

The rat grinned and fumbled with his tail as he noticed the grin on the dragoness's face. He smiled as well. "There's only one feeling that I hate more than being hungry, and that's throwing up. Getting illnesses in the alleys is terrible." He pulled a wry face, awkwardly looking around as he was convinced someone was watching their conversation. There were three other furs in the tavern beside them and the tavern-keeper. He noticed a large male tiger stand up, money in his right paw. As he walked up to the wildcat's counter and waited to pay, he cast a sly look at Stromnor and Freya. "Nice date you are having there," he noted in a strong Yamahan accent. Stromnor went a vicious color of red. "We're not together." he stuttered. "We're just friends." The tiger gave a subtle shake of his head, smiling vaguely. "If that is what you say, rodent."

Freya tilted her head slightly, and gave a small frown when Stromnor explained how his previous captain may have avoided retaliation from his crew. "Perhaps..." She replied thoughtfully. "I suppose I can't really judge without having been there." She continued. She looked slightly mortified when the proprietor mentioned bad milk, but couldn't help a bit of a chuckle escaping when he mentioned smelling it.

She frowned a bit when he mentioned getting sick in alleys. "I can imagine." She replied with sympathy. She paused when he started looking around, and scanned the room herself. "Something wrong?" She asked with some curiosity as it seemed, to her, that there was nothing out of the ordinary. Freya directed a disapproving look at the tiger when he made his observations. "I don't see what business it is of yours weather this is a date, or just friends enjoying a chat." She frowned. "For all you know I could be hiring an assassin." She new her last statement sounded outrageous, but that was beside the point. She turned her attention back to Stromnor, noticing his blushing. She raised an eyebrow at him in a silent gesture of curiosity. "Just friends." She quietly echoed his earlier statement.

The Yamahan tiger eyed Stromnor rather nervously at Freya's last comment. His ears flattened against his broad head as he noticed the cutlass tattoo on the rat's elbow. "You are right. It is none of my concern," he stuttered. When the tavern-keeper came to accept payments, the tiger gave a last wide-eyed look at Stromnor and abruptly left the tavern. The wildcat tavern-keeper seemed wildly offended and yelled at the tiger's back. "Just because ya got a stinkin' accent don't mean ya can run 'round my tavern whenever ya like it!"

Stromnor grinned at the reaction, and as a result what caught off-guard by Freya's query. He looked at her. "Erm, well, we are," he muttered. "I was telling the truth. We -ahem- we are having a chat. As friends. It'd be kind of strange if we were -ahem- y'know, more than that. Especially since we've only known each other for a day." he added as an afterthought. The rat frowned into his mug of milk, sipping it slowly. I must've sounded so stupid. he thought silently.

Freya was a bit surprised at the tiger's reaction. Once her initial surprise wore off, she watched the rest of the scene play out with quite a bit of amusement. As the tavern keep yelled after the tiger, she burst into a short bout of laughter. "Normally I'm the one that inspires reactions like that." She commented.

She composed herself by the time Stromnor replied to her earlier comment about 'just friends'. She nodded he explained that he felt he'd been telling the truth with the tiger. she raised an eyebrow for a moment at the last little bit of his reply. She picked up her drink and took a long swig before she set it down and made her own reply. "Truth enough to that I suppose." She replied, though she wore a thoughtful expression on her face. "I do need to visit the Marine garrison later today." She commented, watching Stromnor's reactions as she did.

Stromnor eyed the back of the wildcat tavern-keeper. The feline was certainly a peculiar creature. There was a long awkward pause as Freya replied, and they sat there sipping their mugs in silence. Stromnor curved his frown into a neutral position. He didn't want to seem too unhappy.

Then Freya mentioned that she had to visit the Marine garrison later that day. Stromnor's ears perked up; he had been around there a few times, on Ratveil of course, but only watching as his captain didn't want trouble from the best navy of Felia. A pretty busy place the last time he was there, watching the determined looks of girded felines gazing back at his crew from behind ramparts as they carried about tasks. He voiced this to Freya, mentioning especially that they seemed very prepared and confident. "I always knew they had the best Navy; it would make sense for such a title to make a notice in the garrison." Stromnor thought for a second. "Why are you going there anyway?" he asked curiously.
