The Exile's Return (Edwin, CLOSED)

Some one-thousand years into the future, Feila is now ruled by pop-crazy teenagers, computer nerds, and gun-wielding gangsters. This period is most like our present day Earth, specifically the 2000's, with the Internet, MP3 players, and towering skyscrapers. All natives are furry (Skin Avian are present here too). No native humans.

Sitting in the vehicle with Roberta, Artashir crossed his arms on the ride before he heard the hyena speak to him. Angling his ear, he heard her advise and the quick nervous change of names from 'Mane'n tails to his real name. While his professional personae was back and flared up like a steel wall, he felt a foreign feeling that he never had in a long time, "Um...you can keep calling me...that." He said as he never talked to a person casually before. Gently putting the side of his temple as his head gave a throb, he closed his eyes before pulling the visor down as advised.

He felt odd, split. Then he finally answered, "I...will get my business back and teach the insubordinates a new lesson about betraying their leader." He said with a soft growl, other than that, he didn't answer and let time flow through him. His body still ached in a phantom pains here and there, but other than that, he looked fine, just grumpy.

When the Subaroo slowed to the Victorian house, he looked at it and muzzle made a very small frown. So aged and refined... Stepping out with Roberta, he walked behind and watched as she tried the front door. Blinking to her question, the lion stepped forward and gently moved her aside before trying the door. Frowning at the lock, he sighed abit and stepped back a couple steps, looking up and around the area, "Do you have something to pick the lock?" He asked the hyena.

***

The lynx held onto his seat belt as the bull swurved and slid about trying to catch up with the speeding car until it was flying over a construction site to which even the crazy cat wasn't going to risk his life for a jump. "Um...what now?" Ferdy asked. Tapping a claw on his belt, his eyes followed along the highway, "Follow the highway..." The little bounty hunter ordered and with a silent nod, the bull slowly started to turn when police officers suddenly appeared with whining siren and stepped out of their vehicle. "Out of your vehicle and hands up!" A german shepherd barked with a snarl and angry expression.

Poor Ferdy's face lose its color under his fur, "...Oh great!" He roared before slamming his head against his wheel. The lynx looked at the rear mirror and scorned angrily. "Always the cops when you don't need them."

Spike brightened up when Artashir allowed the nickname. Still, she said nothing, listening to him. Man, all ancient species rivalries aside, this was one lion she had no intention of messing with.

But now they were at the door. Spike gruffed and looked at it. "Deadbolted. Nah, I don't have anything that'll fit in there," She said, looking at the deadbolt, the keyhole of which was of a more modern design than the rest of the house. Only one other method to try. Roberta gently directed Artashir aside with the back of a paw. "I think I got one thing that'll work though," she said, taking a step back. "Me!"

Spike then leaned back and gave the door a hard, swift kick, right at the bolt. A loud, wooden crack came. Roberta winced, hopping on one foot for a moment. "Ow...but almost there." She took a few steps back, then charged, building up full steam. Focusing all her weight on her shoulder, the hyena collided with the door, which cracked down the side closest to the latch. The centuries-old joining gave way, and the door split, two thirds of it still on the hinge, the other third wobbling out of the latch.

As she stumbled to her feet in the old kitchen, Spike shook off and wrenched her shoulder around, working out the pain. "Shoulda put my pads on," she grumbled, "but hey, we're in! Put the door back together as good as you can, heh." Inside was pitch black. Lucky most of the party, if not all, was nocturnal. "Maybe they left a coupla candles lying around?" Spike began to search.

Fritz drives up right as Spike drives down the door. He facepalms as he walks up to the porch. "So was the ride enjoyable? I'm fairly certain I lost them, and had a friend in the city disguise my car and switch my plates. We'll be pretty secure here. That is after you and I fix the door, Art. Honestly, if you'd waited for a minute, I have a picklock set handy," he chuckles as he steps inside and night vision takes over. He looks over the place, noting the kitchen they were in, and checking around the rest of the house for bedrooms, bathrooms, spare rooms, and anything that might be of use to their cause. "Yo Spike, is the water working in here?" he asks, wanting to get their living arrangements down if they were gonna be staying for awhile, and seeing where Art wanted to go from there.

Art watches the hyena break down the door, have the exact same idea in fact. Despite the supposed inherit hatred between lion and hyena, he enjoyed Spike's company, along with a few others. They were direct, amusing, and certainly competent when their minds are put to the task. Chuckling at the destruction of the door, he walked after her, and just noticed Fritz have arrived at that exact moment, speaking of a pick lock.

Shaking his head, he looked around with hardly any trouble before he rose a brow to his name being included in 'fixing the door', his inner nobleman wanted to laugh but he was silent as usual. Moving around the kitchen, he finally said, "Excellent work, Fritz. That might give us some time..." Just then a distant sound caught his attention looking in the general direction.

When Fritz made that lockpick comment, Spike made a face that was priceless in how unamused yet smoldering it was. "Thanks for telling me that NOW, Firejanks," she grumbled. Feeling around, she pushed the on button on the light switch. Nice, they were the antique kind where, when you pushed the top button, the bottom one would pop out, and vice versa. If she were alone and not careful, something like that could amuse Roberta for hours.

Unfortunately, pushing the button did absolutely nothing. Turning on the faucet confirmed that it was not just a burned out bulb. "Nope," she said to Fritz, "we got nothin'. Unless somebody wants to hotwire us up to the grid again, but that'd be stealing electric. And sheesh, Fire-janks. I'da thought you'd only ever drank Evian," she quipped. "Anyway, looks like we're stuck with bottled water, showering at my place, and lanterns. I'll bring the stuff by tomorrow."

Spike resumed scavenging, just to make sure. Sure enough, "Ooo! Hey, candles! And..." she rummaged further. "Matches! It's a long shot, but..." she struck one, and gave a quiet whoop for joy. "Let us be light," the hyena misquoted, setting the lit candle on the kitchen counter and reaching back in the drawer for a few more. In moments, the room was almost suitable to read without eyestrain. Fortunately, the windows being boarded up and all, there was little chance to be seen from the outside.

Fritz eyeballed her after she lit the last candle, "Unless you meant fur color, I think you meant let there BE light. I might not attend church much, but even I knew that." He looked around the room and grimaced, Spike blended in perfectly with a place like this. He'd need to mentally adjust to it, and even then it might take a while. His own rummaging found a few clothes that had been abandoned, and while dusty, they didn't have any noticeable rot or holes in them, so he wasn't hurting for changes of clothes, and neither would Art since there were multiple men that lived here at one point with their wives. Of course Spike wouldn't wear some of the bouffant dresses he found, but the men's clothes weren't TOO badly dated. "You got a working washing machine at your place too? I think we could use these for certain outings." By then he noticed Art looking in the distance. "The last time you did that resulted in me almost getting a speeding ticket. Do I need to hide the car, Art?" he asked the lion.

Artashir stared out of space for a moment longer before Fritz's words actually got to his brain, turning his large head and looked at him. "Yea, that will help alot." He said, almost sarcastic with the word alot like a tolerate manager would when speaking to a scatter-brained employee with amusement, but he withheld that attitude.

As the light was revived, his sight somehow angled to watch Spike play with the light a bit. Blinking, his vision corrected itself. "Dang..." He spat under his breath, those hooligans messed up his sight too. Walking over to the refrigerator, he checked to see if there was anything to drink. To his surprise, a container of bottled water was inside as the light flickered in the border of life and death. Reaching in, he grabbed the water in his large hand, hmm a warm.

Shrugging with a little sense of care, he unconsciously snatched the cap off and jugged it all down his throat, still feeling hypothermia a bit, or just a phantom of the symptoms. He didn't care, he just drank it and even sucked the air of the plastic shield. With the bottle collapsed on itself, he plucked it off his tongue and went for another.
***
With a explosion, the police car flew through the air and slammed onto another, the officers scattering. Wearing a hood and bandanna to hide himself, the mad lynx bounced a sizzling tailed hand-sized cannonball in his hand before throwing it over to the next car.
"Retreat!" The sargeant ordered as the earth-shaking explosion sent another car spiraling through the air. Ferdy didn't know what to do, he just shuddered and watched as the little lynx terrorized the police force. "Get that hoove to the metal, Idiot!" The lynx ordered and pulled a couple of bombs from his vest.

When the bull started to move, the lynx spun and sparked their cords on his hostage's hot rusty truck side before flipping backwards, tossing the two explosives at the police and left a wall of flying debris and smoke as he landed in the back, laughing childishly as they drove off. "You are crazy!" Ferdy cried, wishing this was some crazy nightmare.

When he closed his eyes, he whimpered with a chew of his lower lip before looking at the rear mirror. Nearly screaming when he saw the lynx death-glaring in the mirror, "Drive." He ordered and the bull can just nod, hearing the police sirens wailing madly and the sound of a nearby helicopter.

Now as most of us know, hyenas are primarily scavengers, though they are adept hunters...er, huntresses? Whatever. Therefore, even a week-old Mickey D's cheeseburger in the back of the break-room refrigerator was fair game, if nobody wanted it (or nobody was looking). Even so, what Artashir had done just now was beyond scavenger rules. How many years had that bottle been sitting in the fridge? Ok so it was sealed, but eww, man. "Yo, like, that just ain't right," Spike said, sticking her tongue out and holding her gut in revulsion. "I'll go buy a few gallons tomorrow morning."

In the dim light, Spike carefully sat on a kitchen counter to make sure it didn't splinter under a fur's weight. "Uh, yeah? I got a washer. But seriously, you're gonna wear THAT stuff?" Again she looked mildly revolted. "At this point I'd be like, looking for a bed. Or using the clothes as one." Aside from the refrigerator, there wasn't much left for furniture. "And like, I wouldn't be doing much sprucing up around here. The less everyone knows somebody's living here, the better, right?"

Fritz nodded, "True, but if we're to have any chance of restoring Art to his position, we'll need disguises, and dare I say it, the tuxedos don't look too bad. As far as beds go, I saw some upstairs, three at least, though the floor is rather rickety, it's safe enough to traverse, and the higher vantage point could give us an advantage for surveilance. Mind washing bed linens too, Spike?" he asked. After making sure they were safe in here, he ran outside and did some maneuvering to hide his car from plain sight, parking it in back behind an old abandoned trailer. The trailer wasn't as old as the house it looked like, and he found not only more clothes for casual wear that were still clean, but also a working toilet and a couple of bedrolls they could use in the downstairs area. He brought his finds back to the house itself and asked, "So... what now? It's gonna take time to find out what happened since we're still hiding out. Got a plan, boss man?" he asked Art.

Art didn't pay no mind to Spike's disapproval as he sucked down two more water bottles before breathing heavily with his tongue out before turning around to listen to Fritz quickly while is ears twitched for any noise outside of the house. Slurping his tongue back in his muzzle, the lion spaced out a moment to think. "The only plan at the moment is finding a way to get pass our stalkers and get to Gwynedd." He said before blinking, "Where are we anyway?' He asked, looking at Spike with a slight tilt of his head, just realizing he might not be in his homeland.

***

The bounty hunter held onto the truck as it swerved around the corner before pulling out another bomb. "We can do this all day!" He screamed before throwing the explosion on the seat, caltrops popped from their shell and lined the road. It was second late for the police as they tried to stop their chase but tires popped and vehicles rolled. Giggling, the lynx smirked under his bandanna, and tapped the side of his getaway trunk. Answering with increased speed, Ferdy turned another corner and sped to a abandoned factory.

However, the sound of a helicopter caught the lynx's quick attention. Narrowing a eye, he pulled out a trio of kunai from his vest, and in a heartbeat of calculating, threw the Yamahese weapons through the air. One slammed on the front-glass, making the pilot jerking and angle his aircraft abit. The second stabbed into the roof of the helicopter and finally the third stabbed into the back rotor with a violent explosion.

The helicopter spun crazily in a tornado of smoke from its rear and crashed into the nearby docks. Satisfied with his work, the lynx smirked, "Alright, get inside the factory." He ordered. Ferdy bit his lower lips, "But that would be obvious!" He called out but the small cat smiled more, "Exactly."

Fantastic. It was bad enough working in a foundry--ok, she'd just been put on summer shutdown--but now Spike was going to be a washerwoman too? Spike huffed. "Yeah, I can do that...sheesh. Am I gonna have to cook and sew for you guys too?"

Her ears perked at Artashir's question though. Man, he musta been hit hard. "Uh...You're in an abandoned house, in like, Hanover, Sylvania...Edwin. Feila. 17331. Zat cover it?" How much did he need? "And like, where the hey is Gwynedd?"

Fritz rolled his eyes at Spike, "If you pay attention to the news or geography class any, you'd know. That's the far west border of Edwin. There's a lot of turmoil going on in Gwynedd because of..." Fritz stopped himself short as he made a connection, "Hold on a second, you're THAT high up in the food chain? Wow. This is more serious than we thought. Gwynedd's going crazy because you're missing, it made it to the national news even. Heck, we've gotta keep a REALLY low profile now just to avoid you having attention drawn to you. Either that or we could get back to the main city once you're recovered and receive a police escort back to your place of business. Either is really fine with me," he chuckles, enjoying the idea of being the center of fanfare, however he knew that he was in pretty deep now and couldn't go back even if he wanted to.

Artashir narrowed his ears abit as he listened to the extended address from the hyena, one part of him was amused and wanted to laugh but the other-more fractured part-was scornful. The lion took to the more pleasant half better, appalled by his latter’s attitude, however it was lessened at Fritz’s following answer. The scorn was replaced by anger and vengeful retribution. Maxwell certainly wanted him away from home, from the way the fox have answered, the lion was on the opposite direction of Gwynedd.

Then the Viscount’s ears perked at the surprised realization and concern. “I wouldn’t be surprised…” He finally said, the answer felt like MONTHS in his train of thought, slowly clasping his clawed fingers together as his eyes looked forward, “I don’t trust police often, they aren’t as…competent as I would like. For now, we will stay low until that bounty hunter is dealt with.”

***

In the city’s abandoned factory area, once used to manufacture steel beams and such, now closed and condemned due to financial issues. Ferdy’s truck resting from a crashed in hole and relatively fine, however, its driver is not. “Oh God, Oh God!” The bull cried out, holding his head in fright as he paced left and right as his eyes looked around for something to focus. “How did I get into this mess!?”

High above, the bounty hunter was hanging upside down on a beam while fixing a wire with dexterous fingers. Humming a song as he worked, the lynx rolled his eyes as his hostage’s rantings. “Oi, can you shut up down there!? I’m trying to work!” He shouted.

Ferdy looked up with angry eyes, “How about you just turn yourself in already? The police is going to have this place surrounded in a few minutes.”

The lynx laughed, abit too creepily for the bull’s taste, before looking ‘up’ at the man with a grin, “They already do. About forty officers and a fourteen-man SWAT team…four snipers to the corners.” Ferdy’s jaw dropped, he don’t think he even heard the cars come in. Curious to see if the lynx is right, he carefully sneaked to the ripped hole and poked his head out to see.

Gasping in dismay at the sight of police cars with their lights blurring and officers at the rear, ballistic vests on and guns aimed. He just barely saw the SWAT team truck, black and all, sitting behind the cars. “Oh spit!” He cursed under his breath before quickly recoiling his head back in before a sniper take a chunk out of his head. Hugging himself, the poor bull started to backtrack to the center of the open room, “W-what are we going to do?”

“We? Why don’t you turn yourself in?” The bounty hunter asked matter-of-factly. “Besides being my unwilling assistant, witness to the chaos, and indirect assailant to the highway action, I am sure they’ll go easy on you and all.”

Ferdy didn’t know if the lynx was mocking him or being sincere, but he thought about it. “Umm…” he was beginning to say but the sound of rusted metal grinding together. “Oh goody, here comes the fun part.” The bounty hunter said, pulling himself up and disappeared over the wide beam.

The bull didn’t know what to do, too scared to run out to surrender and he wasn’t quite keen of being the lynx’s hostage for long. He just had to wait and see how this will turn out. Getting back in his truck, Ferdy sat down and hugged himself.

Spike realized she had suffered an attack of acute cerebral flatulence. 'Where was Gwynedd?' Sheesh. Well heck, why'd they have to give a major city an old lady name anyway? That's what threw her off. She gave Fritz that smoldering you don't wanna know what I'mma do to you if you don't button it, Firejanks look. Granted, the most she'd actually do to him was muss up his fur and laugh when he freaked out over it, so it was more of an empty threat. Nevertheless, it was still a look that those not in on the joke would fear.

Still, with the rest of what her new comrades were saying, Spike was feeling outbrained and uneasy. "I wish Turnpike were here...he'd know what to do about all this, and the smart way to do it," she whimpered softly to herself, regardless of there being a fennec in the room. On second thought, maybe it was best he stayed away, but Roberta's heart had a quicker route to her mouth than her head did.

Fritz nodded, remembering her talking about him in the past, "I'm actually prone to agree with you, Spike, but there's just one thing. Didn't you say he had a less-than stellar reputation? He'd be a great person to talk to in a situation like this, but then knowing his past reputation, it may be a volatile gamble. Of course in a similar vein, I miss Renee too. At the very least I can rest assured that she's safe."

It was starting to get late, and a yawn escaped Fritz's lips. "Long day. If nobody objects, I'm gonna head to bed. If we decide to do a watch, wake me up last, I'm beat." He turned in upstairs without a second thought and fell asleep near immediately.
