Blast from the Past (Edwin) [Restarted] [Open]

Post by LittleWing »

It's a funny thing, reincarnation. Almost completely made up by chance; only with the exception of if you were good or bad, of course. If you're good you get to be something awesome, like an eagle, or a rich guy. If you were bad, you pretty much get to be a crappy plant. Or a rock.
Though, strangely enough, for some creatures it isnt so black and white.
Sibuna was a prime example of that.
He somehow managed to come back as himself An anciet pharoh-esque figure brought back to life. Only catch; it just so happened to be some 5000 years later.
This would describe why, exactly, this tall, dark-furred jackal was rumaging through a dumpster in the rain.
If you were to ask him how he got there, he would tell you a grand, elaborate tale of a great undertaking; his call back from the grave, re-awoken by fellow gods to fulfill his destiny. A tale of gold, riches and glory. Of strength and might.
While, in all honesty he had no idea. He had to keep up his oh-so-royal facade, yes? Or so he thought.
To the unknowing eye, he would just look like a very large (7 feet, at least), black jackal dog digging for scraps.
Upon closer observation, one would see that his fur wasn't black as much as it was actually a very dark navy blue, and that he wasn't wearing norma, clothing, but was wrapped in bandaging around his hips, feet, and hands.
It pained him so, to be doing this. Royalty? Digging through garbage? The impropriety! No, he wasn't digging for scraps! Of course not. He simply dropped a valuable token of some sort and his servants were off tending to other matters at the time. Yes. Of course! That is what it was. Nothing at all what it looked like.
He shook out his short coat, sending a spray of water around him. His paws fumbled over bits of old news paper, cardboard boxes, old food, but nothing he would adorn his shivering body with.
As much as he didnt know where he was, he did know that he needed some form of clothing to wear. Not only for protection against the elements, but also to blend in somewhat among the other folk here.
Whichever wise-guy said that you brought everything with you into your next life was clearly wrong. His wealth, his gold, his treasures, his prized possessions... none of it was here. Nothing. It was gone. He was left with bandages permanently grafted to his body and a leather pouch around his waist.
Unless... unless... of course! Why hadn't he thought of this earlier?
He shook his head in disbelief, unable to comprehend how foolish he had been. His treasures were buried elsewhere! Just because he crawled out of a dumpster (which most likely had been right where his sarcophagus had been buried) doesn't mean that is where all of his wealth lay! Ancient tombs were massive! It could be anywhere in this city! Hope was not lost!

'Dumb rain!'

Lucky shuffled along the sidewalk, hands stuffed in pockets. Why did it always decide to rain when it wasn't needed? It never seemed to rain when the weather was hot and sticky and in dire need of a good cool down, but as soon as its sole purpose would be to make everything it touched cold, wet and miserable -- bam! Rain.

Mother Nature sure was one sadistic little--

"Nya!" The young kitten tripped over her own paws, landing face first into a large, muddy puddle. She swiftly pulled herself onto her knees, face contorted into one of disgust as she spat out the murky water. "Damni--"
Before she could even finish complaining, a car raced past her, splashing the remainder of the puddle over her. When her mouth was still open, no less.
"Augh!" she spluttered; needless to say, filthy rain water did not taste very nice.

Hoisting herself back onto her feet, Lucky shook her fur out before breaking into a brisk jog. She figured she'd better find somewhere - an abandoned house or something - before the inevitable thunderstorm and--...

She slowed to a halt. Did she just see what she thought she saw? Peeling long white-tipped bangs away from her face, she backtracked a few steps and peeked into the dark alleyway before her. There was definitely someone there, digging through the trash. A very tall somebody. A very tall somebody that she didn't recognise.

The black-and-white feline stepped into the alleyway, jade-green eyes narrowing at the figure as she approached him. Upon closer inspection, he was... some kind of dog, she figured, dark blue in colour, having only a few bandages to adorn himself...
She guessed that he had gotten into a street fight; that would explain the bandages. His clothes had probably either been torn into oblivion, or stolen. Not pleasant. He was possibly in some a gang... But which? She was almost certain she hadn't seen him before...

"Oi." She leaned against the side of the dumpster. "What neighbahood ya from?" She eyed his shivering body for a few moments, before peeling the dark green hoodie she'd been wearing off and thrusting it up towards him. Of course, even if it was oversized on the child who had barely reached the double-digits, it wasn't anywhere near enough to fit the jackal. But it was something. Lucky put on her best nonchalant expression. "An' put dis on - you're embarrassin' to look at."

The back alley was littered with both garbage and junk. A rusted shopping cart lay forgotten and bend, one wheel missing the the handle entirely boggled. A few 20 gallon drums, almost lace-like due to the decay were strewn about. Among these things, Sibuna found a length of heavy, heavy chain. He took it in his paw and turned it, the metallic clinking echoing against the brick surroundings before being drown out by the sound of rainfall. After a few moments of study, he decided that this would make a decent weapon, in case he would for some reason need it.
Unfortunately he couldn't find anything else to wear. The tunic-like cloth draped around his hips and the bandages would just have to do. He scoffed at the idea of royalty walking around in near undergarments. Then he paused.
Royalty! I can wear whatever I damn well please!"
His undeniable narcissism tended to make him look foolish more than anything.

"Oi."
The jackal turned toward the voice, shielding his eyes from the rain until he caught sight of the cat. She looked very young.
"You there! Peasant!"
He strode toward her.
"What is this place?"
As the hoodie was lifted up to him, to carefully took it, pinching the edges between his fingers as if it had been sitting in a heap of dung.
"What is this?" He asked, partially to himself, partially to the girl. Her accent was indistinguishable to him. Foreign.

"You there! Peasant!"

Who the hell was he calling a peasant?! She opened her mouth to retort, but sound failed to pass through it.

The giant dog was striding towards her, holding a chain. A big, giant, heavy chain. Obviously it was to be used as a weapon! And even more obviously, he was planning to use it on her!

The kitten's body tensened and fur bristled as she struggled to keep her compsure. She couldn't let him sense any trace of fear - n-not that she was scared, of course! She wasn't scared of anything! Especially not weird blue dogs with giant chains!

"What is this place?"

That guy had the weirdest accent she'd ever heard. No one she'd ever spoken to spoke like that... Of course! It was obvious to her now that he must be part of a mafia gang.

As thoughts of his presumed intent swirled around in the cat's mind, the jackal delicately took the hoodie from her, prompting her to snap back to reality.

"What is this?"

...Did he seriously just ask what a hoodie was? Either this guy was a Grade A moron or... No. This was just a trick to get her guard down. His puzzled expression, and the awkward way he held the garment seemed genuine... But it had to be a trick! It just had to be! Who on earth didn't know what a hoodie was?! He must have taken acting classes in his super-secret mafia headquartres, that's all!

She'd show him! He'd messed with the wrong kid! The feline scrambled up onto the edge of the dumpster to level the rather large height gap between them, attempting to stand tall and confident whilst simultaneously keeping her balance.

"D-Dis is m-m-my t-territ-tory...!" It wasn't entirely clear whether her voice shook from fear, coldness, or the fact that her balancing act wasn't going so well. "S-So you g-gotta do what I s-say...! F-Foist, you can--..."

CLASH!

The thunderstorm's dramatic entrance threw Lucky off-guard - and also completely off-balance. Despite all manic arm-flailing, she toppled backwards into the dumpster with a cry of surprise.

...Yup. She sure showed him.

He smelled the fear on the feline. This was to be expected. She was young. And significantly smaller than he. She was also a female. And a cat. Clearly, this made her inferior, yes?
The chain, like a snake, coiled itself around his midriff. It seemed to do this by itself, like a serpent really would. But everyone knows that is impossible, isn't it?
Little magic tricks were nothing to the jackal. An ancient practice that came as naturally as breathing, completely second nature. In fact, he had hardly notice that he had caused the metallic links to do such a thing, as he was too busy watching the kitten scramble atop the dumpster.
His eyes met hers as she stood, finally reaching his level, then they narrowed, ever so slightly. Her language was foreign to him, yet he tried to comprehend.
"You," he asked, with a voice not unlike the subtle thunder that was crawling toward them, "own this land?"
Skepticism was etched across his features; lower eyelids slightly raised, jaw held firmly, lips almost pursed.
Her falling into the dumpster didn't ease his suspicions very much, but, alas, this land was strange.
Even some of the great kings were very young, initially, perhaps they followed the old customs here as well.
The thunder bellowed across the sky, a streak of lightening briefly illuminating their surroundings. In the flash, he saw the kitten laying in the heap of garbage he had just been digging through.
He reached into the dumpster and grabbed her by her upper arms; one hand on each side, then picked her up out of the debris. Carefully, he removed her from the bin, then plopped her back onto the ground. Not a single word was spoken.

The feline became tense as Sinuba's strong hands grasped her arms and hoisted her out of the dumpster. Her initial thought was to thrash around and attack him, but... he just put her down. No chain beating. No kicking her whilst she was down. He didn't even drop her. He just... put her down, without a word.

The white fur that dominated her muzzle failed to obscure the blush that swept over her cheeks. "T-T'anks, I guess..." she mumbled, averting her gaze from the grand jackal and stiffly brushing debris off of herself. Perhaps this guy wasn't so bad after all; he really did seem lost and oh so very confused... But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing...

"An'... An' yeah," she whirled around to face him, attempting a 'regal' poise. "I own dis land...!" She dramatically lifted an arm before jabbing her finger towards the ground. "An' if you bow down an' call me Da Great An' Powaful Lucky, I might jus' give ya a tour of my kingdom...!" A smug smirk spread across her lips. Her ego was recovering rather swiftly.

The blush that swept across her cheeks send the jackal into even more confusion. Perhaps she was feeling ill.
His arms folded themselves across his chest as he gazed down at her, his almond eyes fixed on the small creature that stood before him. Still, he remained silent.
That is, until she finished speaking.
For just a slight moment, he tilted his head to the side in the utmost canine-like manner before bringing his attention back to her. An owner of a great plot of land! Who would have thought? It was clear that she was some form of authority.
He took to one knee and put his forearm across his chest, his paw curled into a fist.
"You have my sword, O Great and Powerful Lucky," he vowed, his head bowed slightly. He used the phrase figuratively, considering he was mostly unarmed.

He... he actually fell for it! He actually bowed down to her! And called her great and powerful! Her initial shock was undeniable - wide-eyed and slack-jawed, she stared at the kneeling jackal. She'd demanded this, but it... it actually happened...!

Wait, did he say something about her having his sword? She wasn't sure how that made sense, but-- ah, who cares? He respected her! He thought she was awesome! The young cat's surprised expression quickly became one of rather poorly concealed glee. She folded her arms tightly across her chest, trying hard not to grin too widely.

"Nyao dat's da way it oughta be...!" She opened her mouth to say something else, but paused, noticing her forgotten hoodie. He'd asked what it was before, right? "An' dat," she gestured towards it. "Is my royal robe, but you have my pe'mission to wear it 'til you get some otha gear. Ain't like I need it."

Lucky barely waited before whirling around and, with a "Come, loyal subject!", marched out of the alleyway and back onto the sidewalk. As she walked along, she pointed to the various buildings around as she announced them.

"Dat's a buncha peoples' houses, dere's a convenience store, da mall's back dere somewhere, dat's a buncha otha peoples' houses, graveyard's riiight back ovah dere, dis here's an apartment block, an' dat's da park, where I won a big huge fight singlehandedly, but I do dat all da time, I'm real powaful y'know, an' popular too..." And on she yakked. She didn't appear to be aware of Sinuba's struggle to comprehend her language and accent, let alone the rapid pace in which she spoke them. The only interjections to her barrage of words were the brief but strangely frequent moments in which she tripped, walked into streetlamps and other assorted obstacles, and at least once barely saved herself from falling into an open manhole.

"Da hell ya from, anyways?" She finally asked, once she was quite done pummelling the poor jackal's ears with her 'tour guiding' (and boosting her own ego). "If you were from 'round here, I woulda seen yous already. Did ya come here for somet'in'?"

The great dog returned to his full high, waiting for his next command. As far as the girl was concerned, he was now her loyal body
guard. Where she went, he went, whether she liked it or not.

The hoodie in his hand, hanging limp in the rain, gained his attention now. A royal robe? It was quite tiny...
It took great effort, but he eventually managed to squeeze into it. The sleeves were a little short, so him pushed them up slightly. The fabric clung to his skin like sausage casing, the fact that it was wet made it even more uncomfortable. But for now, it would do.

He obeyed her command and followed her down the street, half a step back and to her right.
There were very few words that he understood in her rambling, but his eyes followed her gestures none the less. Perhaps there was a way he would be able to understand her.
As they walked, he pondered. Maybe a spell. Some form of magic...who knows.... The answer did not come to him.

He noticed her tone of voice, more than anything, when she questioned him. His ears twitched, trying to comprehend what she had asked. Clearly they were questions. Twice, he blinked.

The silence that followed her questions prompted the kitten to turn her head to gaze at Sinuba. "Hullo?" she raised her voice slightly, to be heard over the rain, having figured he simply hadn't heard her "I asked ya a question. Where'd ya come from?"

As she stared at the jackal expectantly, she neglected to pay attention to where she was walking, and consequently walked straight into the side of a building. "Oof!" She tottered backwards, stopping right besides the dark blue canine and shaking herself off.

She glared at the building, before realising it was a convenience store. Thinking about the goldmine of food within, and the low growl her stomach emitted as a result, reminded her that she hadn't eaten yet. She'd been banned from the store a while back for stealing; usually she'd use crowds to slip in unnoticed and grab what she needed, but with the weather being as harsh as it was that day, there wouldn't be many customers to draw attention away from her... So...

Placing a hand on her hip, she stared up at her now loyal companion. "Hey, I order yous to go in dere an' snag me some cookies!" she demanded, pointing her free hand towards the building. "An' whilst you're at it, ya can get me some ice-cream too! An' candy! An' whateva else dat looks good!" She'd ask questions later - an easy way to get food was just too good to pass up!

He really wished he could understand what she was saying. This was going to prove difficult... There had to be something.
This strange world would never be understood....
"I...." he started.....
"The tombs..." was all he said. He really..didnt understand. His confusion and frustration was scrawled across his face.

When she stumbled backward, Sibuna placed his hand on her back to keep her from falling.
His attention was completely on her.
He followed her hand as it pointed to the store. Her stomach had growled. She wanted food.
This, he understood...
At once he turned and walked into the store. The clerk...well..
the clerk didnt know what to do with himself...

The colorful bags and boxes made no sense to the ancient creature...the flickering florecent lights, the chime of the register. It was all very overwhelming...

((OOC: I hope I'm not breaking any rules by temporarily taking the role of a random background character; if it is, or if someone would like to take the role of the clerk as a better fleshed-out character, I'll happily remove the last part of this post.))

...Tombs?

A cold shiver trickled down Lucky's spine. The idea that this guy was an undead zombie was a tad unsettling, and his exhasperated expression didn't do much to help. No... No, he must have meant he was just... born at a cemetary or something; people could be born in the strangest of places, and he seemed weird enough to say such a thing - yes, that had to be it. Her follower wasn't a brain-dead zombie, he just realised her superiority. That's all. Yep. This wasn't all some elaborate trick so he could eat her brain (after all, she was such a genius that anyone would want her brain, of course)...

Another shiver struck as Sibuna touched her back; she had very nearly leapt out of her fur, but, shoving the thoughts of her follower being a zombie aside, instead turned her attention to the store and the loud complaints from her stomach. She'd think more clearly once she gorged out on candy.

Lucky intently watched the grand jackal follow her motions and, upon realising her demands, immediately stride into the store. Even if he was a zombie, he seemed loyal to her... A zombie didn't have the brain to hold a charade like this... did they?

Just who was this guy?

---

The clerk watched Sibuna enter the store. The presence of a 7-foot tall jackal wearing only an awkwardly undersized hoodie, a few bandages around his appendages and hips, and a long, thick chain hovering around his waist as if it had a mind of its own was... bizzare, to say the least. The outward appearance of the jackal was intimidating, almost thug-like, and yet... somehow, he had a kind of... regal air about him, the clerk couldn't begin to explain.

Still, the clerk was pretty sure he'd never seen this guy around; other than immediate assumptions based on his outward appearance, there was no way of telling whether the canine was a troublemaker or not. He'd just have to keep an eye on him. Although... the jackal seemed confused, somehow. Lost. The clerk wasn't sure what to think anymore.

Still, a customer was a customer, and it was the clerk's responsibility to help.

"Can I... help you, sir...?"

Just outside, a tall, young-looking tiger stepped down the sidewalk, his hands shoved deeply into his pockets. He absent-mindedly touch his wallet in his left pocket. It had been a while since he had some alcohol, and he figured that it would be a good day to drink. Even then, however, he couldn't help but shake the feeling that something was going to happen.

David sighed to himself. 'Whatever happens, happens,' he thought to himself. 'It's not like it's any of my business.'

What was taking that mutt so long? Did he get in trouble already? Well, even if he seemed kinda weird, he seemed tough at the same time - he had that huge chain, after all. Still, Lucky was beginning to get kinda wor-- impatient! That's it, impatient! How long was he going to make her wait for her candy?!

"Nya-aaaa-ACHOO! Gnyah..." The young kitten wiped her arm across her nose. It had only occured to her then that wearing only a tattered t-shirt and shorts in a storm was a bad idea. She yearned for her hoodie, but she knew that weird jackal needed it more than she did, zombie or not... N-Not that she cared if he freezed or not...!

"He'd b-bettah h-h-hurry u-ua--AAACHOO!" Lucky shivered, beginning to hug herself and pace back and forth in some attempt to retain some warmth.

The storm, however, did not seem to want her to accomplish this, and shoved a strong gust of wind her way. Her teeth chattered uncontrollably and her eyes squinted to see through the barage of icy raindrops, but still she tried to stand her ground.

Alas, she couldn't hold this up for too long before the wind swept her off of her paws entirely, and unceremonously threw her straight into a passer by - a young tiger with his hands buried into his pockets.

A dragon, looking beaten and tired, was walking tiredly down the city streets. He was alone, with no true destination, no direction. The scaly figure walking along the streets that were blanketed by this awful storm was named Grendel. He was somewhat amazed by the storm, as there wasn't many from where he came from. The large, energy-filled bolts of lighting shooting from the sky dazzled him. He wasn't truly bothered by the frigid droplets of water falling down upon him, his cloak covered him almost completely and kept him warm.

While gazing at the storm, however, Grendel nearly bumped into two others, a cat and a tiger by the looks of them, but he flinched backwards before he did. "Oh... My apologies," he said flatly.
You wish your sig was as awesome as mine.
