Talamh remained quiet as the dragon spoke, brow slightly furrowed as he contemplated. Right now, they had no idea what Zechariah was capable of, but Talamh felt like he would be a strong one. Other than the one group of furs that the siblings had met few months prior posed the same threat to them as this stranger. “Ok…So then the reason to contact us was out of mere curiosity? What had you planned for after?â€

Zechariah regarded them all. The earth one... seemed to be the leader, and thus was probably the one he most needed to convince. The other male, the fire-kin, would probably be won last, if ever. The one of water... was even handed. If he could convince the one of earth, she would probably follow. The wind-kin now, she already wished to be a friend. So did Zechariah, he was mildly surprised to find after some quick introspection. He felt towards these four like he felt towards his journeymen-wizards.
"I did not have a set plan, as I did not know you all that well. I did wish to let you know that you have at least one friend... and that not all outsiders desire your death, in spite of what your experiences may have you believe. I cannot say that I blame you for your suspicions, they have been shown true so many times." He looked at all four again, tinged with sadness. There were a very few people had known who needed friends as much as they.
"As for now, that all depends upon you. What is it that you want? If you wish to live here unmolested, I can arrange things to keep this area free of travelers, and somewhat more hospitable to you. I must war you though, there is only so much I would be able to do. The Arctic is not in my influence the way that, say, Gawain is. I could not guarantee protection forever. I extend the same offer with the same caveat for anywhere in Feila, though obviously I can offer more in places where I have more influence. There is, however, another option..."

Zechariah paused. "I should like you to listen carefully to this. Have you ever stopped to think of why so many people have targeted you? Or, conversely, why so many people similar to you have not been targeted so much? I have lived a long time, long enough to know that the most powerful incentive not to kill is the fear of vendetta, that someone somewhere will notice and avenge the death. With you, however, the case is different. You travel together, and alone. No one else cares about you, thus if the killer can get you all in one swoop, there is no fear of retribution. And since this environment precludes you forming relationships with others who would care enough to avenge you, it becomes a vicious circle. I can offer a way out. My adopted clan, a University in fact, would be happy to adopt you. We are no strangers to hybrids with unusual powers." He chuckled dryly. "Actually, we're probably the largest group of them in Feila. Anyone who would mess with you would mess with us." He grinned, showing all his teeth. "A serious mistake. Also, we could teach you to hone those powers of yours, so that you would be able to be a significant threat yourselves. And if you have more ambitious desires that mere survival, well, what else is a family for?"

Zechariah stretched and shook himself. "You do not, of course, need answer right away. And you may retain the right to change your mind, as well. Having once made a link with me, you may call again anytime you need me. I'm likely to be close by for some time. Think it over." He looked again at Adhar. "Be brave, little one, and let no one steal your joy, and your hope. Let your light shine against the darkness, and not go out." The last sentence was a traditional farewell for Zechariah's lineage, since adopted by the University as one of the encouragements Elders gave to up-and-coming wizards.
And with that, he pulled his head and claws out from the opening. As he left, he put a specially-designed ward on the hole, that would keep heat from escaping. He also made it obvious that he'd done so, hoping that the magically-astute among them would take it as a sign of goodwill.

The four siblings stayed standing there, looking at the gaping hole as the shock still lingered in them. Slowly, the reality of everything that happened settled on them, and they all sort of just slumped to the ground, each deep in their own thoughts, each wondering if it really would be a safe place for them.

Maybe…Just maybe… Uisge looked up at her brothers as she wrapped an arm around Adhar.
Adhar leaned against her sister, her tail wagging frantically. See? He really does want to be our friend! It could be a safe place for us! She looked at her siblings with hope in her eyes, as she had a feeling that going to that…University thing would mean more friends.

Talamh and Teine both remained silent as their sisters starting to build on their hope. Neither liking that too much, as they were afraid they would just be disappointed in the end.
Easy now…It’s not a sure thing yet. And it might all just be lies. Talamh added, as Teine nodded his head. Teine watched his sisters, as he sighed. Don’t get your hopes up, it’s very well that it will all just be a trap.
Sighing, Talamh looked around at his siblings. Although, it seems like it’s the best course of action for the time being. We obviously can’t stay here, as the environment is just too cold for us. And going anywhere else, we are bound to run into others. Maybe…Just maybe, it would be a safe place we could finally settle down.

At his words, Adhar jumped up in excitement and pounced her brother, joyful laughter coming from her lips. Yay! And we can make even more new friends!

Uisge and Teine shook their heads and sighed at their sister, though Uisge’s lips were slightly pulled into a smile. But Teine still had his doubts…

Vergil sat there and listened to everything said. 'that's a good deal for those kids, but the don't seem to trust to easily. I wonder if that dragon will win them over.' he limps over to the fire and lays back down. 'I hope no harm comes to them.'

Zechariah "listened" to the siblings mentally. He could only catch emotions now, but that told him enough. He'd won over both the sisters, it seemed, and Talamh was willing to support him. *Good. I should hate to have to leave them here because of their own stubbornness, but they are hardly still cubs! I can't arbitrarily make decisions for them.* Zech began to wonder just when he'd started thinking of the four like adopted children. *A habit I've gotten into. I wonder what will happen when they find out about their new family...*
He stuck his head back down the hole. "Are you coming? I can fly you back to my temporary abode, and on to Gawain, too, after a rest. It will be much faster than walking, and safer, too." That was the second time in his life that Vesperocci had offered a ride. The first had come not too long ago, with a certain ferx journeyman-wizard...

Adhar was the first to react and she jumped up and ran over to Zechariah. “Yes! We’re coming! We’re all going to go with you!â€

Zechariah smiled. "Alright then. You may come on now, Adhar. There is a space right below the shoulders that you can ride" The dragon lowered himself to allow Adhar an easier way aboard. "The rest of you, stay close. If you have any more questions about the University, you can ask me on the way."

Adhar, unable to contain her excitement any longer pranced over to Zechariah. Her wings pushed her cloak aside as she partly hovered into the air so that she landed gracefully upon the large dragon's back. Still giggling, she sat down and looked over at her siblings. How cool is this?!?!?! Holding onto Zechariah, she prepared herself for the trip, folding her wings delicately behind her as she waited.

The other three remained on the ground as their sister went over to Zechariah. Whatever misgivings they had, the joy that was radiating from Adhar was much too infectious to ignore. As Adhar sat down, the remaining three pushed their cloaks aside as they spread their wings, stretching them far to get the kinks out of them before rising into the air, hovering a few feet away from Adhar and Zechariah. Talamh floated a little higher, so he wouldn't have to yell... "Rest assured, we will remain close as you lead the way."

And so, a whole new chapter in the siblings lives is unfolding before them. Could they have finally found a place where they could call home?
