The wolf ignored the avian and walked forward. The temperature steadily dropped, and soon the trees grew scarce. He walked, occasionally looking back to check on the others. Halfway up the slope of the mountain, he paused and motioned further up the mountain. "Come on, not too far and we start finding the caves!"

he started up again, walking slowly as the rock began to become covered in snow.

With a shiver, Mark took note of the cold that began to intensify. "It's been awhile since I've been in the cold." he commented, with a chuckle. "Guess I've been hanging around Southern Edwin too much."

Looking around him, he noticed the trees beginning to thin out against the rock, and the snow that covered it. Something in the back of his mind told him something wasn't right.

"Hey, we sure this route is safe?" he asked. But no sooner did he finish his question, than an otter in full plate-mail, and holding a halberd up, bellowed up a shout just ahead of them. Four lightly armored mercenaries, armed with short-swords and clothed in chain-mail, ran down to the group, weapons drawn, as they quickly closed the distance. The leader was not far behind, obviously used to navigating the terrain in heavy armor.

"Never mind." Mark commented, as he drew his arrow back, ready to fight.

Jack was mostly unaffected by the cold, due to his thick feathers. "Oh come on, I offer help and you ignore m-" he was cut off by the arrival of the mercinaries. He looked at Shade. "Untie me." he said.

Shade simply said, "Don't betray us," and let him go. He stepped into the crow's shadow, becoming invisible. Then, with the fleetness of the Order of the Black Hand, he darted to the lead charger, tripping him. He then darted among them, keeping to the shadows to the shadows to maintain full invisibility. When he came to the leader, his melding stopped. "Come on, does everyone have those bloody stones?" he cursed.

Amadeas watched, slightly amused. "I thought they would have left these rocks for the more fertile hunting grounds of the southern roads." He shed the fur and brought out his sword. Spreading his wings, he moved toward one of the mercenaries. He didn't particularly care about killing them. They might have information. As he approached his target, he brought up the katana. He blocked a swing and grabbed the poor bugger by the throat. Applying pressure, he forced the creature to his knees. "Drop your weapon," he growled in a very deep voice.

As he held the beast there, he brought his sword up in a killing position. If the creature moved, the wolf would kill him. "Now..."

The leader, falling forward from Shade's trick, stuck his halberd into the ground, catapulting himself gracefully to the ground, landing in a kneeling position, halberd at the ready when he landed. The large otter, facing the now-visible Shade, moved cautiously forward, bellowing out his challenge. "It's either my blood or your blood. Defend yourself!" With that, he lunged the halberd straight for Shade's chest.

The fox that Amadeas had gripped was gasping for air, but he forced a defiant grin. "O-or what? *gasp* You...gonna tell...your angel pals t-to escort me to Infierno?" Struggling for air, he continued. "I live by the sword. *gasp* Y-you finish the saying."

A bear, aiming for Fera from the start, dashed in, sword held low.

The last one, a hyena, Charged in for the now-released Jack. Before he closed the distance, though, he stopped, circling around him, looking for an opening, and waiting for an attack.

Jack waited for the hyena to begin circling, before reaching down to his swords. When he drew them, the blades were pitch black, and he began swinging them around with skill. "What is it with me and hyenas..." mumbled Jack. He then lowered his guard for a moment; to anyone else it would've looked accidental, a slight fatigue. But he was doing this on purpose, as he too was waiting for an opening.

Shade simply side-stepped the lunge. In response, his arms quickly rose. They scissored elbow-past-hand on the shaft of the halberd. It had more than enough force to snap the shaft.

He snapped his foot at the otter's chest, simultaneously grabbing the halberd's broken piece.

Fera made a small noise in her throat, running from the charging mercenary. She was not prepared for this at all. She thought of how to get him off her back. She was a sound illusionist, dammit. Not combat-ready...

Amadeas only stared hard into the eyes of the fox. "No. I'll not have you sent to hell. I'll just feed you to my mate. Vampires get every so hungry and He hasn't fed in a while." Turning his head, he saw Fera in trouble and flipped his sword up, throwing it, and pinning the blade through the leg of the one chasing her. Then he turned back to the Fox. "My patience is thin mortal. I'll not ask you again." He gave a hard squeeze on the poor guy's throat, just to prove he meant it.

The hyena tilted his head to the side, before shaking his head. He knew it was a fake. This bird had just armed himself. There was no way he could be tired. Instead of going for the opening, the fox took a different approach, and drew a second blade himself. With a sudden movement, he swung both of his blades, aimed to meet the crow's swords, ignoring the faked opening.

The bear fell to the ground with a pained shout, as the blade Amadeas threw pierced the back of his leg. Angered, he raised up his sword, preparing to throw it at Fera, determined to get in at least one kill.
The sword clattered to the ground, as Mark's arrow struck through the bear's paw, causing him to crumple to the ground, shouting in agony, as he cradled his bleeding paw against his chest. Looking up, he glared at Mark, Fera forgotten.

The otter positioned the rest of the halberd's shaft to deflect the kick, as he dropped it, and grabbed the halberd as Shade was doing, trying to force the blade against Shade's neck. But he made a mistake, as he briefly turned in response to the Bear's yell, leaving the side of his neck open for just an instant.

The fox continued his defiance. "That *gasp* supposed...to make me afraid?" As the blade left Amadeas' paw, he took the moment to examine the situation. The bear had been incapacitated, he was losing consciousness, and he saw the leader's mistake in turning his attention away from his opponent. This assault was failing rapidly. As the grip tightened around his throat, he gritted his teeth, his strength beginning to fail. His sword clattered to the ground, not out of fear, but of a reluctant surrender.

The crow grinned. Just what he wanted. He'd planted one of the swords into the ground in the direction the hyena was attacking from. When the hyena attacked, he swung the sword up without removing the sword, essentially throwing a large chunk of dirt into the hyena's face. While the hyena was momentarily distracted, he jabbed with his other sword, aiming for the stomach. "Always did hate hyenas. Bloody ugly face, and laughter." he said.

Shade took full advantage of the opening. His hand snapped out while he ducked the blade, for one hand would not hold it long. It struck the otter's windpipe, instantly crumpling it. He smirked, knowing the kill shot.

Fera turned when she saw her attacker stop. Seeing him glare at one of her companions, a strange feeling filled her. Gripped by a sudden rage, she manipulated the soundwaves to produce a high-pitched screeching noise right beside the bear's ears. It was loud and sharp enough to rupture his eardrums and addle him.

Amadeas gave the fox a shove. throwing him to the ground. then he kicked the creature's weapon away. "I've had enough. Go home, live a long life as a farmer. Try to earn your piece as a normal mortal." The wolf turned to the others. He looked around him at the death. IT did sadden him, that mortal lives were wasted at such pitiful sense. "Enough!" he bellowed. "No more. Let them go, please. We have our work cut out for us and they are but mortal men. Let them live with the life they have left." The wolf turned to the fox.

"In Edwin, there is a woman you should seek. She may yet be able to teach you a thing or two. Her name is Catalina. Go seek her and ask for her teaching. she can train you to fight, and to be an honest blacksmith. No go, before I change my mind."

The otter, crumpled to the ground, hands around his throat, as he looked up at his killer. He didn't glare, he didn't show fear, but his eyes did show a respect. He grew still, as his eyes glazed over.

The fox, gasping for air, looked up at Amadeus, smirking. "Even if i did want to, a simple life is not possible for me."

As the crow's blade went for the stomach, the hyena, still blinded from the dirt, pivoted away, the blade glancing off his chain-mail. Moving away from everyone, and glancing around, he suddenly took off, leaving the battle behind him

The bear shouted in pain, as blood ran down from his ears. In a blind rage, he reached for the blade in his leg, and pulled it out, glaring at Mark, who had an arrow ready to fire. Even still, he half-stumbled toward him, shouting his pain and rage loudly.

Mark couldn't fire. He had his aim right on the bear's head, but he couldn't do it. He hadn't really killed before. Damaged, incapacitated, but not killed, and it showed in his hesitation. This adversary wasn't going to be put down by a non-lethal wound.

He didn't get a chance, as a blade shot past his shoulder, and embedded itself in the bear's head. His shouts ceased, as he crumpled to the floor.

The fox, kneeling on the ground, had drawn a dagger, and had thrown it towards the bear. Standing up, he dusted off his armor. "Bloodthirsty idiot." he muttered. Looking over to Mark, he nodded. "Tannis sends his regards." he said. Mark, hesitating, put his bow down, glaring at the fox. "What's a Legate doing here?" he questioned. The Fox shrugged. "What's an Emissary doing here? Found another cause to put your life on the line for?" Walking towards Mark, he shook his head. "You know, if you took that shot, I would be obligated to help you, as your group has spared my life. Seeing as I just saved it in return...Well, You know the rules of the Legate."

As he began walking away, he continued. "Whatever you've gotten yourself into, Tannis is going to throw a lot more things your way. I suggest you find something more than those two arrows you have."

Seeing the hyena flee, Jack grinned and immediately gave chase. He drew his longbow, put in three arrows, and aimed the middle one at the hyena, and fired, having the other two prevent him from going left or right.
