-Creating a Standard Battle RPG Character-

Much easier than it may sound. Simply browse the list of creatable Standard Battle RP Characters found in the Arena Basics & Creating a Battle Character thread, then copy the stats for the character that you want, and paste them into a Signature Extension.

Once posted, the only part of the stats that you may alter is the "-Enter Name Here-". Your stats will be updated every time that you complete a battle by an administrator or moderator to prevent cheating. These stats MUST ALWAYS be listed in a Signature Extension. If you remove them or alter them in any way, you risk having your Standard Battle RP character reset to Level 1.

You may be wondering what the difference is between a "Standard" and a "Special" Battle RP Character.

A Standard Battle RP Character is your main Battle RP character, and you may only have ONE and NEVER ANYMORE. You can only have the Standard Battle RP Character's stats reset if you are wishing to change its species, such as a Cat to a Dog, but you must first PM the Admin, RabidFox, or JamesG with your request.

A Special Battle RP Character is won through select tournaments and special battles, and can NOT be copied from another member. These MUST BE EARNED. A Special Battle RP Character's stats can NEVER be reset, because there is simply no point in doing so, as the species of a Special Battle RP Character can NEVER be changed.

So creating a Standard Battle RPG character is that simple. Remember, just copy the stats of the character that you want from the "Arena Basics & Creating a Battle Character" thread, and then post them into a Signature Extension. After you have created a Standard Battle RP character, you can introduce them to the userbase in the New Players' Intro thread.

-Purchasing Weapons & Items-

First, check your battle character's stats to see just what weapons that it is capable of equipping. For example, a Mustilidae/Ferret can only equip: Swords, Bows, & Handaxes, and the weight of the weapon, listed in the weapon's description, can never be anything but "Light".

So a Canine/Dog, who can equip any type or weight of weapon, would be able to equip a Steel Axe with a "Heavy" for weight, while the Mustilidae/Ferret can NOT.

Now that you know what weapons your battle character is able to equip, go to the Disgruntled Blacksmith, or the Lucas Heights Research Facility, accessible by the Midas Arena sub-forum. Here you can purchase weapons, items, and special items, whether they be from the official board stores or a member store. Make sure that you have enough gold before trying to purchase an item, or you will not be able to purchase it. You must pay the required gold for each item to a battle moderator. Once the item is bought, the battle moderator must add the items to your character's stats, under "Items".

There are many ways to earn gold. Here are some:

* Post replies and topics

* Play the Lottery

* Compete in contests & quests (Found in The Carnival)

* Battle other members

* Battle in tournaments and special battles

* Sell art commissions, custom sprites, and other such services for gold (Do this in The Marketplace)

More information on items... If you purchase 1 Potion, then you only have 1 Potion. If you use this 1 Potion in a battle, then you NO LONGER OWN that 1 Potion. DO NOT use it again. Remember to include which items you used and how many when PM'ing battle results to the Admin, RabidFox, or the battle moderators, so that they can be subtracted from your inventory. Also, do NOT buy new items when you are currently in a battle (Purchasing equipment such as weapons and special items is fine because you cannot reequip during a battle). Doing so is unfair to your opponent and against the rules. Finish all battles before buying new items.

Same as with items, do NOT use weapons in battle that you do NOT own.

-Challenging a Member to a Battle-

If you wish to engage in battle with another member, then PM that member with your challenge. If they accept, one of you will create a topic in the Midas Arena board and your battle will take place there. If they do not accept, please refrain from pestering them.

Another way to challenge a member to a battle is to create a topic with a public challenge. In other words, anyone that reads your topic can challenge you. If multiple members accept your challenge, then choose one of them, and battle that member. If you still wish to battle one of the others, inform them of this, and then the next battle will take place in the same thread.

-Equipping Weapons, Using Items & Calculating Damage-

You must always state what weapon that you are going to use for a battle by "equipping" the desired weapon in your initial post. This informs your opponent how to figure damage caused to them during the battle, as they will need to know your weapon's Power stat and type in addition to your character's stats.

For example:

"I equip the Great Sword with a Power stat of 10."

Now that you have equipped your weapon, your opponent will equip theirs. Once both parties have finished equipping, the battle will begin with whoever has the first turn. Sometimes a special skill will automatically determine who receives the first turn, but, if neither character has a special skill like this, then the initial challenger will attack first.

Calculating damage is simple. You equipped a Great Sword with a Power stat of 10. Let's say that your character's Str stat is 10. Add these two numbers together (10 + 10) and you get 20. Now, using the Random Number Generator, set the 'Min' of the 'True Random Number Generator' to 1, and the 'Max' to 100. Now generate ONE random number, and add it to your weapon's power and character's Str stat. Let's say the number was 75. You now have 95, and so 95 will be the damage points that your opponent has suffered. Your opponent will actually be figuring their own damage, not the other way around, so simply attack and your opponent will subtract the damage from their HP (Hit points). When you are attacked, you will figure up your own damage, and then subtract it from your HP. You will post an update of your HP every time that it is your turn, so that you and your opponent will know how much damage that you have been caused.

If you had instead equipped a magic tome, you would have used Mag as the attack points.

The weapon and magic triangles will affect how much damage that you cause your opponent. For example, if you have a Sword and your opponent has a Frying Pan, you will always cause your opponent 15 extra damage points and they will always cause you 15 less damage points. The weapon and magic triangles are as follows: Sharp beats Blunt, Blunt beats Ranged, and Ranged beats Sharp; Fire beats Wind, Wind beats Water, and Water beats Fire. "Miscellaneous" type weapons do not fit into the weapon triangle, so therefore "Miscellaneous" type weapons do not cause any extra damage nor any less damage against any type of weapon. Similarly, "Dark" and "Light" magic do not fit into the magic triangle, so therefore they do not cause any extra damage or any less damage against any type of magic tome.

Another way that damage points can be affected is if you have a weapon that is strong against a certain race and your opponent is of that certain race. For example, a Bow is strong against Avian, and you have equipped a Bow and your opponent is Avian. You will always cause your opponent 15 extra damage points. Your opponent's damage points against you, however, will not differ in this case.

If both the weapon/magic triangle and racial weakness apply, then simply add all extra damage together.

Now if you are using a special skill rather than an attack, the process is done differently, though, far more simply. A special skill is just an effect, not damage, so all you need to know is if the special skill works or not. You use the Random Number Generator for a special skill just like you would for an attack, then the random number must be at least 50 or higher for the special skill to work. Some special skills activate automatically, so therefore they would not need to rely on the nubmer generator. An example of an automatic special skill would be First Turn. All automatic special skills have the word "AUTO" listed in their description.

On the subject of the special skill Steal: If you successfully perform this special skill on your opponent, then they must trade the item(s) of your choice to your username once the battle has ended, but only if you win the battle itself. You cannot steal weapons or special items. If there are any problems, simply PM a battle moderator with the thread name, your opponent's username, and your concerns.

On the subject of special skills that weaken stats: You must post an update of the affected stats every turn if you are successfully targeted by this kind of special skill. For example, your opponent successfully hits you with the special skill Toy, and you lose 5 points to your Str stat. You must now post this stat update every time it is your turn. Say you normally have a Str stat of 10, so you will post the following... Str: 10 -5.... along with the rest of your post every time it is your turn from now on.

Items are pretty self-explanatory, and their effects are listed in their description. For example, a Potion cures a set number of HP and a Herb cures the poison ailment. Using an item does take up one turn. Once you use an item, do not use it again. The Battle Moderators will remove any items used from your inventory after the battle. Special items that improve battle performance must be equipped before battle just as you would any weapon, except that you state what effect that they will have on the battle (These can be used an unlimited amount of times, but you can only equip up to 3 during a battle and no more, and you cannot equip duplicates of the same special item). Special items that permanently increase stats can only be used once via Private Message to a battle moderator, in which you must request their effects and, if you have multiple characters, state which character that you want these effects for.

Whoever loses all of their HP first is the loser, and the last one standing is the winner. Both parties must PM the battle results to a battle moderator or administrator. Make sure to include who you fought, who won, and what and how many items were used if any.

Do not attempt to alter your stats (Other than name) or they will be reset. That is the job of the Battle Moderators.

-Sending Battle Results for Gold, Items & EXP-

After the end of a battle, both parties must PM (Private Message) the results to the Battle Administrator, n00b678.

To PM: Go to your Inbox, select Compose Message, type the name of the user in the Username field, type Battle Results in the Subject field, and then enter your message in the Message Body.

Your message should include the following: Who you fought, who won, and what and how many items you used if any.

After both parties have sent in the results, the Battle Moderator will check over the information, and then update both members' stats, gold, and items.

20 EXP is earned for each battle that is won.
10 EXP is earned for each battle that is lost.

Once your character has reached 100 EXP, they will gain one level, and the Battle Moderator will update your character's stats.

350 Gold is earned for each battle won.
0 Gold is earned for each battle lost.

Gold can be earned many different ways, so if you want to earn the most that you can, try wandering to other areas of the forum in search of contests, games, events, and other such things. You also earn gold for each post you make.

-Tournaments, Special Battles & Weather Conditions-

Tournaments are held by the Admin and the Midas Arena Mods, and award winners with large sums of gold, special items, trophies, and sometimes even Special Battle RP Characters.

What is a Special Battle RP Character? It is an additional Battle RP Character (Not a Standard Battle RP Character) with good stats, and can be of a normally unattainable species, such as a Dragon. These characters cannot have their species altered in any way, only their name.

Special Battles are similar to Tournaments in that they award special prizes, but, unlike Tournaments, are not open to large numbers of participants. These occur more frequently than large, hard to manage tournaments, so you will see these quite a bit more.

Weather Conditions only apply to Tournaments and Special Battles. Their effects will be listed on a case by case basis, so ignore the weather conditions in the Midas Arena unless you are competing in a Tournament or Special Battle.

-Rule Modifications-

Sometimes, you may run across a battle with rule modifications. In this case, the normal doctrine for battling in the Midas Arena has been modified to a small extent. No one but the administrators and moderators may hold tournaments or battles that involve more than two participants, but members may add their own personal twists, such as...

Using Weather Conditions to Decide Element Weakness or Power

For example, if the weather conditions (Found in the index description of the Midas Arena board, or at the top of the thread list for the Midas Arena board) say "Intensely clouded, storm", then this would suggest that the arena is currently very clouded and rain is coming down from the sky. You and an opponent might want to use this information to spice up your battle by placing the battle into these conditions, and using the conditions to, say, weaken all fire-based attacks by 15 points, while strengthening all wind-based attacks by 15 points.

No Standard Items

A challenging restriction might be to prevent the use of standard items. This way, neither you or your opponent can heal themselves with items nor use items to interfere with each other’s progress.

No Special Items

You could disable the ability to equip special items, such as the Third Eye or Daigor's Shield. Neither you or your opponent will be able to equip special items before battle.

No Special Skills

An interesting twist could be to disable special skills. Neither you or your opponent will be able to make use of special skills, thus giving the battle an extra sense of challenge.

Stat Changes

You could increase or decrease the number of HP of one or both of the battling characters, this modification being used as a handicap or to simply lengthen the duration of the fight. This could apply to other stats as well, such as STR and MAG.

Other

As long as it's not too drastic, I don't care if you change the rules a little. You might even want to run it pass me if you are not sure.

Presentation

When applying rule modifiers to a battle, there should always be a notice at the top of the first post stating "RULE MODIFICATIONS" in bold. Then the modified rules should be listed underneath.

For example...

RULE MODIFICATIONS

Weather Conditions: Intensely clouded, storm
Effect #1: All fire-based attacks are 15 points less effective
Effect #2: All wind-based attacks are 15 points more effective
