Quick sparring match

Post by Canis » Tue Oct 26, 2010 12:22 pm

Well, I'm going to try this battle system by my own for now. Feel free to comment, sugest and point execution flaws whenever you can. I will be sparring against my shadow (another Breno Monterey with same equipment and stats), but anyone can intervene: commenting, pointing execution flaws and even fighting. This topic will be deleted if deemed necessary.

------------------------------------------------------------

Breno steps in the arena

Breno Monterey
Feline/Tiger
Weapons: Bow, One-handed sword
Sp. Skills: N/A

Lv: 1 - Exp: 0
Hp: 137/137
Str: 12
Mag: 1

Bio: Breno is the third child of a family of refugees in Maze, running from the death threats from a rival clan. Once they arrived in Maze, the felines fell in love for the new country, and adopted entirely new identities. Breno was raised as a wild game hunter, and is quite confident in his skill. He has a normal, less-than-muscular build, and average height and weight. He has a short one-handed sword for melee combat, and is quite swift on his moves, but he preffers to keep distance and concealment whenever possible. Though he knows no magic spells for the time being, Breno showed a latent potential a few times during his childhood. The bow is his favorite weapon. A scam brought him to Edwin, and he was almost enslaved in the process. Now he is saving money won at the arena, either by working on the staff or fighting, so he can buy his way back home.

Items: 1 bow (light, ranged, power=5), 1 one-handed sword (light, sharp, power=5), 3 rocks (light, misc, power=3, one-use) 1 armor (light, armour, defense power=5)

---------------

The tiger walks in. The crowd goes wild. Well, the imaginary crowd, that is. The arena is closed. The warm sun unbounded by any clouds made that summer afternoon a perfect moment for some training, especially after spending almost the whole morning cleaning the dungeons, distributing lunch to prisioners and helping the doc at healing the ones who simply don't understand how to stop and admit defeat. Boring doesn't describe it.

He takes a sip at a potion a nice patron handled him as a tip. His shadow pops from the ground and quickly assumes an offensive stance. The feline smiles and grabs his bow.

A magically-animated shadow pops up in front of Breno, not too far. It has three dimensions and looks pretty much like a translucent dark statue that moves.

Breno Monterey's Shadow
Feline/Tiger
Weapons: Bow, One-handed sword
Sp. Skills: N/A

Lv: 1 - Exp: 0
Hp: 137/137
Str: 12
Mag: 1

Bio: Just animated. Has no sentience or thought. Acts by instinct, even though not really alive.

Items: 1 bow (light, ranged, power=5), 1 one-handed sword (light, sharp, power=5), 3 rocks (light, misc, power=3, one-use) 1 armor (light, armour, defense power=5)

------------------------

The shadow doesn't take a second and readies its sword, ready to fight

Breno decides it's better to strike first and quickly pull an arrow.

str: 12
weapon: 5
dice: 27
weapon triangle advantage: 15

Not a terrific shot, Breno thinks. At least it landed.

total: 59 damage

HP: 78/137

The shadow is hit and loses balance for a second. It manages to avoid fall and uses the acquired momentum for rushing faster than the foe expected. It swings its weapon in a wide movement.

str: 12
weapon: 5
dice: 93
weapon triangle disadvantage: -15

An almost perfect strike.

total: 95 damage

HP:

Breno falls. That was completely unexpected. He switches to his sword and does a hit and run attempt, in hope of gaining enough distance for using his bow.

str: 12
weapon: 5
Dice: 67

total: 84 damage

He suceeds at defeating his foe. The shadow falls to the ground, only to "melt" and return to the condition of ordinary shadow. Breno's condition is just a strained shoulder, which is surprising, considering that it probably could've break the bone if the attack was made with a real weapon. He walks to the medical center, imagining how pissed the doctor is going to be.

Conclusion: Yup, this system needs some major revamping real bad. It is the old battle system, which didn't work very well even when it was new. Scrapping it off and starting from zero seems the best course of action.
