Bells in the void part 2 (closed.)

Feilans have finally entered the realm of space in their solar system, a vast area, full of exotic planets and phenomena. The colonies created by the old Edwinish Party have developed into a new faction, the Dmitrians, whom are descended from Feilans, but whom have developed a separate cultural identity from their colonial forefathers. At the edge of the system lurks the formidable faction known as the Immortals, a group of furs whom have used technology to live forever, in a constant state of hostility with Feila and Dmitri, both of whom are on tense enough relations as it is. All natives are furry (Skin Avian are present here too). No native humans.

Bells in the void part 2 (closed.)

Abihs Corp building, downtown complex that wasnt very large. It stood three stories tall, covered a half acre. It rested calmly on the edge of the corporate section of old York. In the below ground section was a large office space set aside for meetings or business of an alternative nature. For a Feila based scrap company, they were doing alright. Not very well, but everyone was paid.

Shiba herself sat in one of these under ground rooms. This room was a temple to her divinity. Many that spoke to her did so from this warped and dark room. A few candles lit the scene. Depictions of her combat prowess dotting the wall. The goddess of darkness and chaos was sitting upon a pillow. She was waiting. she wore a red flowing dress, red as blood. Her black eyes lidded as if in meditation. She was actually half asleep. She was napping, in the only place that reained silent from the world around the building.

After a moment she noticed one of the men from the corporate offices standing very still and quiet. How long had he been waiting there to be noticed? Shiba didnt care. He had at least be silent and looked at the floor as he waited to be addressed. "yes?" She whispered.

"As per your command my mistress, we have dispatched messages along the lines to those we could locate. We have located a sabotage specialist. Shall we extend them an invitation?" Shiba thought a moment. "No. Do not bring them in. Send a call. Contact them on their terms. I need willing servants, not frightened prisoners and slaves for this business. ask them to designate a meeting place on their terms. I shall meet them personally. From there.... we will conduct business. While you are are at it, find me a liat of applicable targets. minor targets for now please." The man bowed deeply and then left as silently as he came.

Shiba returned to her nap. Being an evil goddess was tiring after all. And this room was shielded from detection. Both technological and magical. She was quite happy to see that there was effort taken by her thralls to ensure her safety and comfort as well as her dssires and asthetic preference.

The message meant for the saboteur was sent out swiftly. It was sent through the usual channels, bypassing most nets to detect the things like this. It was simple and to the point. It also asked for immediate reply before the job was given to someone more willing. But it promised high pay and minimal risk.

The long range interceptor Inari traveled at a desultory pace as she transported tools between asteroid settlements. The job had paid a mere pittance, but they had offered fuel which was something Sakura had unfortunately needed desperately, so she had taken the job that would barely pay for her food during the travel time.

The genetically modified dragoness was in the small cargo bay of her ship, working out with industrial strength resistance bands as she stared at the offending shipment. The tools were tied down near the cargo doors, while her workout area was near the cockpit bulkhead. Her muscles strained against the bands, and she grunted with the effort while she tried to think of anything better she could be doing for work after this delivery was complete. What she needed was a break, something with a decent payoff that wouldn't be mostly eaten by fuel, and food costs.

She was brought out of her thoughts by a soft chime over the ships intercom system that signaled a message coming in. She cocked her head to one side for a moment as she wondered who would be sending her a message out here. She let go of the resistance bands, and snagged the towel floating nearby. She wiped the towel over her face and hair before heading into the cockpit of her ship. Once there, she floated over the computer console, quickly pulling up the message. "a job huh..." She mused to herself as she read over the short message. "Can't be any worse than what I'm doing now..." She muttered before making her reply. She would meet her new potential employer at New Hoshiruki as soon as she finished her delivery and could get to the settlement. She included the name of a popular drinking establishment for the meeting.

Sakura walked into what was the equivalent of a slightly seedy bar, it was full of furs from all over the solar system, and none of them were what could be called upstanding citizens. It made for an ideal place to meet a potential employer about more clandestine jobs. She ordered herself a drink, and sat down to wait for her contact.

Shiba entered the bar. Oh this was a place she enjoyed. Her tail lifted and swayed as the black dress she wore sparked with energy. To most, a party trick. To anyone that had ever met the super natural, this was something that would easily remind thrm of what went bump in the night.

Shiba found her new employee. Taking a seat beside her thr wolfess turned her jet black eyes on the woman. "Anything you want is on me tonight. Fuel, food, drinks, perhaps a warm bed and a hot shower?" Shiba's lips hadnt been moving. She was speaking directly to Sakura in her head.

Ordering her own drink, shiba continued. "I have need of someone to do multiple jobs. I have enemies. And i dont care how you do it. I need their operations messed up. We will supply your fuel, food, and tools should you need them. Your list of targets will be provided. You can name any price you want within reason. Your jobs will be disabling ships, shutting down power to certain stations, and if need be bringing whole colonies to a stop. My agenda is my own. I can make sure you come out of this clean as a whistle. Unless of course you want to keep hauling shipments that barely pay you enough to feed yourself."

Sakura watched Shiba's dress with some interest. She had encountered supernatural beings before, and this one struck the same sensitivities the other had. "that's very generous, thank you." She replied with a smile as Shiba offered to cover her expenses for the night. She replied verbally out of habit, and though telepathic communication was something she'd encountered before, it was still a little strange feeling.

Sakura sipped her drink as Shiba struck straight to the point. It was something Sakura was happy for, she prefered to get to the point as often as she could. It all sounded like a pretty good deal for her. "I do have one question...or perhaps a clarification I would ask." She said quietly. "When disabling these ships, are you asking for destruction, or just debilitating propulsion?" She asked. She had no problems with shutting a ship down so it couldn't move, but she was unsure her conscience would let her set up a ship for complete destruction with everyone aboard. "I definitely don't look forward to hauling crap to scrape up ends meet..." She commented with a frown.

"I honestly dont care which one you want dear. Just send a signal when you disable thr ships. my crew will handle the rest. If you dont want to blow them up, then bring down their internal defenses when you shut off their engines. As well, i want you to disable communication and detections. I need them blind deaf." shiba sipped her drink.

While it had been telepathic communication, the gravity in her voice weighed a ton when she spoke verbally. "Sakura.. i can get you things beyond your wildest dreams. It is well inside my power to grant you a boon of fortune, food drink and mates. Almost anything.... all i ask in turn, is that my enemies be hampered to the best of your skill."

The wolfess turned her gaze on the woman finally. And her eyes were solid black. The sheer depth was unnatural. This was not just black, her eyes didnt even reflect light. Far from it. They absorbed all light. The woman was.... smiling. Perfect white teeth, amit the pink of her gums. "As i said. You do what you feel you must. My associstes and i will handle the mess. And you grt to float away from each job with a hefty pay, and a large bonus."

Sakura sat back in her seat, as she mulled over what she was being asked to do. Bringing down a ship's systems would be easy enough for her, the hardest part would be getting access to some of the systems themselves once she was on a ship. She grinned when her skill was mentioned, and couldn't help but highlight just how skilled she was. "Well, I built my own ship from concept to finish." She commented. "I am confident I can handle shutting down any systems." She continued with a smile.

When Shiba looked at her, she couldn't help but stare at them. As the Wolfess spoke about handling the mess, Sakura wondered for a moment just what that might mean. She suppressed those thoughts before they would go too far though. She was tired of the rut she had sunk into, and this was just the way out of it she needed, but she was afraid she may lose her nerve for it if she thought too much about just what Shiba meant by handling the mess.

She eventually nodded. "Okay, you've got yourself a deal." She finally finished with an outstretched hand.

(Omg im so sorry!!!! I spaced))

Shiba took the woman's hand. "Very good then. Now. Enjoy yourself some. dance drink. Eat..." she set a card on the counter. A credit card, "here. Its already loaded with half the pay for the first job. 100,000 credits. Enjoy it how you like. I will send you the details for your jobp tomorrow. For now, have a little fun."

Shiba walked away, headed for the door. Pausing only to pay her tab and then head for the door. Thrn she was gone.

It was almost 24 hours later that a message was beamed to Sakura's ship. It was a simple message. Indicating a course, the numbers of a ship that she was to take care of, and a set of things to bring down within the ship. Navigational computers, shields and weapons, and doors that would prevent access to parts of the ship.

Sakura smiled. "Great, thank you." She replied as Shiba handed her the credit card. "I will be ready for them." She finished, wearing a giddy grin as she spoke. Sakura watched Shiba leave before enjoying a few drinks, and a night in a nice room with all the offered luxuries.

Sakura was already in her ship, getting it ready for the job when the details showed up. She looked over everything, committing it to memory before deleting it from her ship's computers. She didn't want to leave anything incriminating on the computer if she planned to feign distress.

It wasn't long before she was back into open space, traveling along the course that had been sent to her. Eventually, after some calculations, she came to a spot along the course where she expected her target would cross her path within 24 hours. She shut her ship's engines down before going to one of the key fuel lines, and pulling out a large chunk, replacing it with a damaged piece she had replaced several weeks ago. She stashed the good part in a hidden compartment before heading back into the cockpit of her ship, and setting up her distress signal.

The signal would pulse every couple minutes until someone answered. Whenever the ship made contact with her it would look like her fuel line had broken, leaving her stranded, and if everything went well from there, her ship would be pulled aboard or attached for repairs, and she would have a chance to do her work.

Now it was just a waiting game, she set the ship to play any replies to her message over the intercom system, and headed into the cargo bay to work out while she waited.

It was an hour later, the ship came into range. It was a lightly armed, but looked more like a transportation vessel for transporting large quantities of goods or people. As the ship picked up her distress signal it began a hail. "Come in. This is Navarnia Corpa. Hailing disabled ship. I repeat, this is Navarnia Corpa. Hailing the disabled vessel. Can you respond? We are pulling along side you. Do you require medical assistance and repair teams?"

The voice coming over the line was distinctly female. It was calm and almost military. There was the sound of the ship captain in the background calling out orders. "Prep the medical bay in case of wounded. I want a small security team to assemble at Airlock six. This ship is small and probably only has a crew of three at most. Sensors are only picking up one person on board. Looks like they are in the cargo bay. Probably a bloody transporter with worthless cargo. Only thing out this way is an automated communications satellite and some busted ships floating in the junk lanes. Someone get on the comms to engineering. I want them ready to get that ship up and running. I know we dont have compatible parts, but we can easily get a patch job done and tow it back to port. Someone get on the horn with SupremeComm. Tell them we will be delayed upon delivery. Helmsman, bring us over the ship and to a dead halt. I want the cargo bay ready to receive that ship in three minutes."

Sakura was alerted to the incoming transmission by several quick beeps over the intercom before the connection was completed. She quickly switched the transmission feed to the wrist control unit she wore. "This is the private long range interceptor Inari, receiving your transmission loud and clear. No medical assistance is required. I am the only member of the crew at this time. My main fuel line ruptured, life support is running on backup power" As she spoke, Sakura grabbed the towel that was floating nearby and started using it to clean some of the sweat from her body. She listened to the orders being given as she started putting on some more appropriate attire for meeting others.

She felt a pang of guilt as she listened to all the effort that was going into supposedly saving her and her 'disabled' ship. She pushed it away with some effort. Once she was properly dressed, she headed for her ship's main airlock exit. On her way, she grabbed the three foot adjustable iridium wrench that doubled as a melee weapon if she needed it, and a large handful of heavy metal slugs, she didn't bother with a slug thrower as she didn't strictly need one, and it wouldn't serve very well to make her look more harmless. She waited for her ship to be secured, and put on a relieved smile, she would appear more or less unarmed to all but the most paranoid observer.

As the soft shudder of the clamps locking her ship in the docking bay Passed, the sound of the responce team gathering at the door. "We're opening the door. Please stand back." The team was two guards with stun sticks, one medic and two engineers. "Miss." the medic said. He smiled, an average vulpine of short stature. The guards were both dobermans. They had no facial expression. "We will get to work trying to patch your fuel line miss." The engineers said.

Sakura sighed in relief as the doors were opened. She was genuinely surprised to see a pair of guards, though they were lightly armed. She turned her attention to the engineers and flashed a small smile. "Thank you very much." She replied. She turned her attention to the medic. "Thank you, I'm not in need of medical attention." She said with a smile before her attention flicked to the guards, then back to the medic. "you're not planning a cavity search are you?" She asked in teasing tones. "I mean we've only just met." She chuckled a bit at her own attempt at a joke. "I do suppose that you're going have to frisk me though?" She asked, assuming that their security protocols called for at least that much. She held her hands out to her sides, better to cooperate, she didn't have anything to hide after all.

The medic chuckled softly. "No ma'am. I dont think the captain would approve and I would like to not get slapped by you." held up a simple device. it looked like a small handheld ultrasound. "See. Simple scan to check for communicable diseases. Dont want to spread anything on accident is all." The guards held up their hands. "No frisking... Honestly, we have a security force on board. If you were a threat, you'd be vaporized already. Besides.... it doesn't look like you are very threatening to us. You probably just want to be on your way, so we can make it a bit easier for you. behave while on board and you get left alone."

The medic finished his scan. "Well you seem in good health. Looks like a bit of muscle tension though. Probably tried to repair your ship yourself didn't you?" he reached into his bag. "If you want I can give you a mild relaxer to ease the tension and let you be reasonably comfortable. If not, we have a room that you can use. Its still a few days to port. The room is a two bed room. You'll be bunking with one of our new technicians. Pay him no heed. He talks to himself all the time about quitting fleet and moving to Dmitri. Like he has the funds. If any of us had that kind of credit stash we wouldn't be working this stupid route transporting stuff for the fleet." He motioned for her to follow. The guards remained by her ship in the docking tube. the medic led her to the elevator and tapped his code in. waiting for it to arrive he spoke. "Sorry If Im too chatty. usually don't get many visitors or passengers. Usually it's just crates full of whatever the fleet wants moved to some hell hole. I mean, what with the loss of Von Drake station recently, and the incident with that.... what did they call her? some rogue agent leftover form the war with the Party? Whatever she was she was scary. She blew up two whole buildings and killed hundreds of people to prove her point. Terrorist... Catalina. That was her name. Catalina... Tamiko? maybe. I cant recall the news feeds. But she was something else. All those implants and most of them were military grade. I wonder how she got hold of them. She was well able to hold her own against a special forces unit like they were nothing. I guess she didn't like being shelved after her usefulness ran out. Then again from what I heard, there were rumors she wasn't normal. Like... She was a demon or something." he chuckled softly and stepped into the elevator as it opened.

The captain was looking over scans of Sakura's ship. Nothing really special. No super big engine, no huge hidden guns. No secret tunnels or hidden cargo holds. This was just... a transport ship. Probably on her way to pick up cargo or between jobs. She didnt look like she had seen serious work in a while. The captain returned to his previous duties. "I want the tests on our new drive core finished before we reach port. Dont worry about our guest. She's no threat. We can stand down from alert level. Just keep an eye on her once in a while. It's not a priority though. focus on your duties."

In the engineering department, the shiny ship was very different from similar ships it's size. It had a massive drive core. The kind that one might expect on a large cruiser, not a transport ship. It's cargo holds were full of large metal containers. each sealed with a keypad and lock. They also had power supplied to each one. There was something inside each container that required power. Cryotubes. each box housed a cryotube. And inside each tube was some left overs from a by gone age. Wounded soldiers, war criminals, even others like Catalina herself. Frozen and kept quiet and away from public view. It seemed SupremeComm had more than a few skeletons in it's closet.

The crew knew nothing of their actual cargo. To them this was merely a training exercise and a test of the new drive core of their transport ship. Rather than months in space, this ship could reach the distance of Von Drake in less than two days at top speed. As well her systems were calibrated to be far more manuverable. And she was armed. heavily armed. Whatever this ship was going to transport was going ot be worth a good deal.

Sakura was sure to keep a polite smile as she was told how little of a threat she was, even though she could literally beat both of the guards with her hands tied behind her back. She was a little surprised that her physical stature didn’t warrant at least a little caution, but decided at length that she should be please since non threatening had been her goal after all.

She nodded in reply when the medic asked if she had attempted to fix her own ship. She wasn’t going to contradict a supposition that helped her cause. When the relaxer was mentioned she shook her head. “No, thank you, I recover fairly quickly. I should be fine before too long. Thank you for the room.” She continued as she followed the medic. She listened as the medic talked about her bunking with a disgruntled technician, and fought to keep a grin from her face. The technician could be a perfect inside hand that could probably be bought with the simple promise of a trip to Dimitri, and a few credits.

Her eyes widened when the incident at the Von Drake station was brought up, though she managed to keep any further reaction from her features. It was no surprise that word of the incident was out, and that Catalina had been the main focus of the stories. It seemed that someone had even gotten a few of the facts right, the up side of that was that it seemed no reports of her own involvement or her ship had been included. She feigned fascination in the subject. “you don’t think there might be more to it than that?” She asked “I’d heard that Catilina had spent quite some time peacefully on that station before hand….something must have set her off.”

She went silent while they stepped onto the elevator, as her wrist com gave her a silent alert from her ship that a scan had been done. While her ship may not have had the biggest engines or weapon systems, the design was nothing of a standard design from either Dimitri or Feila. It was something all it’s own that had an aesthetic that spoke of the long gone days of atmospheric flight on Feila.

Sakura looked at the drive core as the medic continued to lead the way to her temporary room. The sheer size of the core was both surprising and telling. It looked like a prototype, or at least something very new, and very new things almost always had a bug or two lurking about.

As they arrived at the room she had been given, she thanked the medic with a warm smile before she headed into the room. “Hello.” She called out as she entered. “My name is Sakura, I’m going to be bunking here for a couple days”

There was a loud yell and a clunk as something metal hit something soft. From behind a desk a lanky ferret stood up with a small multi-tool. "Jeeze. quit yur yellin!" he rubbed his head as he came from behind the desk. "So... you are the one that got herself stuck floating out there." The ferret's previously mean expression softened. "So... Dmitrian. I never imagined I would get to meet one of you." He even smiled.

Leaning behind the desk he picked up a metal plate. "Sorry. You caught me trying to fix my work station. I spend so much time keeping everything on the ship going... I cant take care of my own things." Setting the plate down he leaned back behind the desk. "You can have the bed that's open. Shower is in the door on the left. There's a foot locker under your bed. I guess you will be bunking with me until we make dock. It's gonna be several days before we reach dock. If you need uniforms or something I can probably get you some unless you have clothing with you." He poked his head up, a couple broken wires tucked behind his ears.

He had a large smudge of wire grease on his nose. "So what's it like on Dmitri? I hear so much about it from fleet command but I dont believe it. I wanna hear from someone that lived there before." His tail twitched idly as he went back behind the desk to work. He was tinkering with his desk. Every so often the screen or some of the lights would come online.
