"Danke Sie." Kolin gratefully accepted the gloves, and flipped on the light switch when he had got them on. He only stepped a little way in before he knelt down to inspect the floor.
Of all the places to do a criminal activity in this institution, the janitorial closet was not the best of choices. It was a vestigial place, built before the maintenance bots took care of cleaning duties, and it was one of the few places they did not cover. As such, it was the one place were evidence was not immediately destroyed. *Well, criminals are always a little bit stupid.* While the items were in a haphazard order, the dust showed signs of a disturbance, and the organizing method... well, there wasn't one. All this, plus the pineapple, was enough for Kolin; this was where he had been held.
But what of any clues? There were some scuff marks on the floor, and what looked like a footprint in the dust. *Did we bring a camera?* Kolin frowned, and then he thought of the lodestone he had with him. Bringing it out, he weighed it in his hand thoughtfully. Theoretically, he should be able to do this...
Without thinking about how this would look to his companion, Kolin called up a little bit of energy, making the air shimmer around his right paw. Forming the air into a kind of rectangle, he mentally laid in flat over the footprint. There was a bright flash, with a beam of light emanating from the floor to the lodestone, and then it was over. Before straightening up, Kolin noticed something else, which he delicately picked up between the tips of his free finger. "A cork?" He wondered aloud.
****

"Pleasure to meet you, Rose. And this place? In my business, we call it a money trap." Matthieu laughed. "It's a cryogenic storage system, got loads of corpsicles, lining every basement hallway. Wonderfully creepy sensation at night." He gave a little shiver, but the smile never left his face. "Of course, we don't know who's viable, and who's responsible for those who are. It's all in litigation, and in the meantime, all the parties have to dedicate funds to upkeep this place. At this point, M. Deuxvrey, whom I represent, would like to cut his firm's losses, but the legal system is obstinate, and won't let him pull out until he's proven to not have anything to do with it. So, I have to make sure that no one's tampering, planting evidence, that sort of thing. Not the pleasantest of tasks, goes without saying."
It did go without saying, as the ermine was so far inclined to simply stay and talk. Still, he was Domish, and Rosa was not a bad looker, and almost anyone would have said that Matthieu would have preferred her company to a corpse's hands down.
****

Meanwhile, down in the basement, Kolin's lodestone gave out a crackling sound, and then began to relay the conversation from outside. Kolin looked at it with surprise, but was not frozen for long. "Damn, we've got to get out of here. If you've found anything, take it." He whispered to Luke. Momentarily feeling regret that he had not recovered his shoes, Kolin crept out of closet and back towards the stairs, keeping as silent as possible, as he was not certain that the communication was only one way.

Rosa pushed away from the wall for a moment and looked at the ermine with a soft smile, "Um, Matthiew, I don't suppose that you would have the time to take a look at that abandoned station I renovated, would you? I'd just hate to see the place empty until it fell apart. There are a lot of ways it could be used, but, being a tourist of sorts, my renovations may not be looked too kindly upon."

Rosa walked next to him, "Confidentially, I believe the station is still property of the city. But it was just such a waste to let it sit and crumble into nothingness."

Stalling was not her strong suit, running, leaping, and acrobatics, were her strengths. She was managing to keep a cool head, and thinking about giving Kolin some time to get out was what was important, even if she had to get the ermine away somehow...

"Uh, oui..." he muttered silently, the feline reaching down once more to give one last glance. He took a lead pipe and what looked like a bottle of bleach. Turning around, he quickly followed Kolin, not forgetting the strange object that he had just seen and the things it played. Perhaps it was some modern, hi-tech gadget that he didn't know about? But he knew everything there was to gadgets. This was certainly something he'd never had seen before. Thinking this wasn't time to ask questions, he quietly hurried after his strange companion.

((Not much I can add, I'm afraid.))

"Oh, that sounds delightful, however..." the ermine put his hands up in a gesture of helplessness. "I cannot, not today, I am keeping someone waiting." Matthieu gestured back towards the hoversine. "Some other time, perhaps?"
And with that, he went into the front of the building.

Not half a minute later, Kolin hand guided Luke to the side door of the building, and exited into the hallway. Signaling Rosa, he mouthed, "Stay. I'll meet you back at the apartment." before going down the alley to where he stashed his bike.
"We'll take the scenic route." Kolin said to his companion. Truth be told, Kolin was almost sure that he'd get lost on the way, and didn't want to answer awkward questions.
***

About five minutes later, Matthieu emerged, apparently having seen nothing to displease him. "So that's that. Charming to have met you. My card," he handed her a little paper card with his name and phone number on it, as well as the firm he worked for, Duexvrey Investments. "Au revoir." With a bow that actually managed to look jaunty, he took his leave, stepping back into the hoversine and driving away.

Rosa left the alleyway, and returned to the apartment as soon as she could. Kolin should be there, if he didn't get lost that is. She arrived almost an hour later, enjoying her run with some improv freerunning for a crowd...

(sorry I couldn't add more, can't think of anything else. lol)

Luke followed closely from behind to the alley. He felt a rush as he darted his eyes about, thinking there might have been someone watching them or perhaps someone to look out for. "Scenic route?" Luke answered, raising a brow. "I don't mind," he grinned. He guessed it was to make sure no one suspected anything or to lose anyone follow them. He placed whatever things he acquired into the toolbox at the back of his bike, getting on.

((Assuming that they did get there? I wasn't quite sure if they did or not, and yes, short post is short. D:))

"Good." With that, Kolin started up his bike and rode the lines as best he could back to Rosa's apartment. There weren't too many detours, and Kolin added them to his mental map of the city, so by the time he led Luke back their destination, he was now sufficiently spatially aware. As well, he had mamanged to jog his memory as to the events of the previous day. *That voice, too, was familiar. I'm starting to get an idea or two...*

With his brain buzzing, the hybrid practically leapt off his vehicle nodding at Rosa. "Sorry I'm a little late, took a side-route down memory lane. If you've got a city map, I can give you the full story as to what happened yesterday..." Kolin brought out his lodestone, weighing it in his hand. "And maybe, we'll be able to figure out why."

"What is that thing?" Luke asked, motioning to the hefty stone in Kolin's hand. "Some sort of hi-tech camera?" the feline's head was abuzz with even more strange theories as to his current situation now. Frankly, this was the most exciting thing that had happened in a long time. He looked out the window briefly to see that the sun had begun its descent, triggering his tail to flick. What about home? Papa would probably be there, waiting. Or maybe he wouldn't care. He usually doesn't. He felt a bit anxious then, but decided to stay and see what'd happen from here, glancing between Kolin and Rosa.

"Hm? Oh, this?" Kolin had been idly weighing the lodestone in his hand, but his attention was now brought to, and what its use must have looked like to Luke. *So... how much do I tell him about this? I don't think he'd believe the whole story quite yet.* "No, it's not specifically a camera, it can be used for... well, practically anything. It'd be more accurate to call it a magic rock than a high-tech gadget." *He can make of that what he wills.*

Upon entering the apartment, Kolin fiddled with his borrowed wristcom until he could pull up a city map. Projecting it on the kitchen table, he called his two companions around. "Right, so here's what happened yesterday. First, I actually do have a job, unlike most in my class. It's something of a cross between a courier and a salesman; I work for a Gawainian dealer in antiquities and rare books named Raymon Valencii. I was in town to escort a delivery, a Goethe first edition, to a rich collector in the financial district. A M. Deuxvrey, I remember, though he wouldn't see me in person. He sent his VP to see me, some ermine named LeBlanc. He wore dark glasses indoors for some reason; maybe he's especially sensitive to light. I thought I recognized his voice when you were talking in the alley, Rosa.
"Anyhow, I wasn't expected back for a little while, so I thought I'd take a walk in the nicer sections of the city. The streets were sparsely populated; they day life had gone home and the night life was just waking up when two thugs jumped me. At least, that's what I know happened, the blow that incapacitated me I don't remember. I do remember becoming aware of the two later, in that closet. One was named Vassikin, he was the bigger of the two, a doberman. The other's name I didn't catch; he was a wiry mutt, maybe part weasel. I remember the scent of Vassikin's gum, and not much else, unfortunately. They decided to drug me when I started to come around, but they chose one to which I have an abnormal reaction. It resembles a kind of rabid, hyperactive fit, which turned the tables on them long enough for me to get away, which is when Rosa found me. The rest you know."

The hybrid let out a yawn after his long exposition. "Any questions?"

Magic rocks, thugs, drugs. Three words that only made the feline enjoy this more. Whatever this 'magic rock' was, it was a poor explanation. It didn't look like the guy really wanted to explain, so Luke just kept his mouth shut. "No questions, here." he waved his paw. "It's been a long day. I think I could do with a good rest right about now, actually." He said, motioning to the door. "I could come back tomorrow early morning, if you still need my help?" though, what help could just a young, unemployed rapscallion could offer in matters that were way above his paws? Maybe something could. He almost felt like he was pleading to them to say yes.

Kolin laughed, "Tired already? I don't think it's that late, myself. Mind you, do come back; I will want your help."
The hybrid returned to the map, chewing on his index clawtip. "Hm, the financial district is across a canal from the train station you talked about, Rosa. The closest bridge to the Necropole runs right by it. Still, it's a long trip to drag a body, so they had to have a closed vehicle of some kind. Do you remember seeing anything like that pass by?"

"Hmm, I don't remember seeing anything important before I found you. I spent just about all day fixing up that old station." She said, looking at Kolin. Once Luke had left, Rosa looked at Kolin, "Do you think it's safe to let him know more of our little 'talents'?"

Rosa listened to Kolin's answer, then turned and walked into the kitchen and started making a nice dinner for the two of them. "Anything in particular that you would like to eat Kolin?" she asked as she began cooking some finely cut strips of steak, and making a salad.

Kolin sighed when Rosa couldn't tell him. Fixing a time, and a vehicle description, could have proved to be clue enough to pinpoint his assaulter.
Luke had left when she asked him about revealing their secret. "Well, I have to admit, I'm not terribly good at keeping it under wraps. I'm almost constantly practicing, and the better I get at it, the harder it is not to use it. Anyone spying on me would figure it out sooner or later." He sighed again, before continuing. "As for Luke, though, I think we can trust him. In fact, I'm curious as to what would happen if you gave him the same stones that indicated I could do magic."

Kolin returned to the map again, his thoughts going in circles, before Rosa asked him about dinner. "Hm, eh? Oh, anything will be fine."

Luke was on his way home on his motorcycle, headphones already on his head - a wireless set that was already 'hooked' to his portable player - a bright neon purple branded machine that comfortably sat in his front pocket. He had set the headphones to allow outside sound to reach his ears in case there was something he needed to hear as he drove. It was dangerous to drive without a helm, but the rebel had always been rebellious. He turned a corner, wondering what would happen if he came home.

Booze, cigarettes, dejection. The feline frowned. Papa probably was doing what he did every day since Maman passed away - no - was murdered. Stupid Papa. Never ever moved on. He already accepted the fact his mother was gone. Why hadn't Papa?

Rosa made a fine meal for the pair of them, and set the table while Kolin mused about Luke's potential for magic. "You know. Not everyone you meet will have the gift for magic." Rosa sat down at the table and looked at Kolin, "Are you going to join me for a meal?"
